Sophia slipped on a pair of dark blue jeans and a red tube top that showed the bottom part of her stomach. She pulled on her black leather jacket but left it unzipped. She pulled on her shoes and grabbed the keys to her truck. She grabbed her phone and wallet on the way out the door. Sophia tossed the keys to Zander, and he quickly caught them. He cast her a confused look.
"I don't feel like driving," she said as she hopped into the truck next to Iris. Zander took a seat in the driver's seat and started the engine. They pulled out of the driveway and started driving toward the cafe.
"Way to blend in, Sophia," Iris said. "I don't think high school girls wear biker outfits."
Sophia glanced down at her outfit with a sigh. She ran her hand through her hair and leaned against the door as she stared out the window.
"You're probably right, but it's too late to change now. Besides, we usually have uniforms for school and stuff. I'm not used to being able to pick what I want," she muttered. For each class they had, they had different uniforms. The only time they wore what they wanted was when they weren't in class or when it wasn't mandatory, which happened very rarely. For their classes, they had to be geared up otherwise, they would end up at the Healing Center.
"Good point. Well, we can work on wardrobe later. Right now, we need to focus on Tyler and Rae. What all are we gonna tell them?" Iris asked as she messed with the stereo.
"I guess we tell them the truth. We tell them why we're here. That's probably the only way we're gonna gain their trust. Plus, I don't see them letting us get anywhere near Carter any other way."
"Or we can just tell them a fraction of the story. Don't forget that it's supposed to be classified," Zander cut in as he glanced over at them. "And last time I checked, any of the other races who are not enrolled in Hunter Academy, or any other Academy for that matter, are not allowed to ask too many questions about the mission."
"Yeah, yeah, I know the rules," Sophia muttered as she rolled her eyes. "I'll think of something."
Zander pulled into the cafe and shut off the engine. Sophia stayed sitting in the truck as Zander and Iris got out.
"You coming?" Zander asked and Sophia stayed quiet as she stared out the window.
"Sophia?"
"You've gotta be kidding me!" she growled as she stepped out of the truck and slammed the door shut behind her.
"What's wrong?" Iris asked running to catch up with her.
"Looks like we're not gonna be able to talk to them now. Mister Alpha decided to show up early, too," she growled as she gritted her teeth. Iris stopped and closed her eyes. She concentrated for a minute before realizing Sophia was right.
"How'd they know we were gonna be early?" Iris asked as she grabbed Sophia's arm and pulled her to a halt.
"I don't know."
"Just calm down, Sophia. We knew they would be coming. We just didn't guess that they would catch on and come early. Rae and Tyler have no say over what the soon to be Alpha and soon to be Beta do," Zander reasoned and Sophia let out a sigh.
"You're right. It's just a bit annoying," she muttered.
"We can handle it. Come on," said Iris. "If you can deal with Ms. Galvin, who is way more annoying when it comes to Alchemy class, then you can deal with him." Sophia's lips lifted into a small smile.
"You have a point there."
"I know I do. You really need to control your anger. What's got you so tense?" Iris asked and Sophia pulled out her phone as she pulled Kodi's name.
