Chapter four - Count my lucky stars

I ran over to the phone booth, which had shattered glass around it, and inside was a petrified Carrie.

"Oh my god, thank god your alright," I said and the weight was suddenly lifted off my shoulders.

"Why wern't you there Jess," She cried

The weight had gone but guilt started rolling in. I had to think of something quick.

"I got stopped by Santa and I had to help clean the reindeer's, so I was a bit late that's all." I lied

"Really, you met santa?" Her eyes lit up "Did you tell him what I wanted,"

"Carrie, I don't even know what you want," I laughed

"Well I have to say this very quietly because Santa might hear me,"

She came up to my ear whispered "I want you to be my mummy,"

Butterflies had made a nest in my stomach, but I smiled at the thought of her wanting me to be her mummy, but also disgusted that my mum has not alone lost her real title as 'mother' with me but also with her siz year old daughter Carrie. What kind of woman can live with herself after her kids don't want her as their mother.

I knelt down, and Carrie got up from her position on the floor and came and sat on my knee. She had a long cut going from her knee to her ankle. (and remember her legs are that long) from where she had been sat.

"Carrie what happened to your leg!?"

"Glass on the floor, and I sat down because I thought I had lost you so I wanted something to take the feeling away,"

"That's silly Carrie, you should never purposally hurt yourself, that glass could be dirty,"

"You make it better now your here though,"

I examined her leg then looked into her green sparkly eyes and it created a smile from ear to ear.

"You have made me better too Carrie, I need to thank my lucky stars that your safe and sound,"
