I woke up to the sunlight beaming through the cracks in-between the cushions and pillows blocking the smashed window. I groaned and rolled out of bed. "Ow Jess! Watch where you're going," I heard. I stepped back and saw Carrie sprawled out on the mattress.

"Oh sorry Carrie," I replied. I turned around and saw Jake still fast asleep.

"I'm hungry!" she moaned.

"Well get up then and I can make you something to eat downstairs." she obliged to what I said and sleepily got up from the mattress and threw on her little cotton dressing-gown.

I slowly opened the door and pulled Carrie through behind me. I closed it, making a click, and not wanting Jake to wake up just yet. I saw that his parents bedroom door was open, which only means that they are up. I rolled my lips into my mouth and we both crept downstairs, trying not to draw any attention to ourselves. But I was wrong...

"Jess?" a warm female voice called.

'Dam!' I thought. I walked back a few steps and popped my head around the corner. "Oh hey, umm... long story,"

"I've got all the time in the world, considering I'm pregnant and all," she said laughing, rubbing her baby bump, which strangely I didn't notice straight away. Why didn't Jake tell me about his mum being pregnant? Oh... keeping secrets are we?

"Oh, Jake didn't tell me you were pregnant, congratulations!" I said with a smile.

"Thank-you dear, now tell me about what happened last night, I thought we were being burgled, but by the seems of you and your sister are creeping around my house, there's a bit more to that massive smash." she replied, with an eyebrow raised.

I sat down opposite her with Carrie sat on my lap. I told her about my... mum, and step-dad, and how they treat us like shit so I had to bring Carrie here. I felt awkward saying that my sister is staying here too. Why didn't Jake tell her all of this?

She put her hand on my shoulder and smiled. "You are always welcome here Jess. You too Carrie," she said, looking down at my little sister. "Jake seems so happy when he's around you guys,"

What?! How can she say that? Well, she obviously hasn't seen him since the party the other night, and how he is now...

She offered me a slice of toast but I turned it down, I didn't feel like eating at the moment. Whereas Carrie dived right in there, taking three pieces of toast instead. We all laughed at how quickly she demolished the toast, and sat back in her chair wiping her face of all the crumbs. "Well, now that you've eaten it's time for school,"

She moaned and threw her arms across her chest. "I don't wanna go to school!"

"Well you have to, school isn't an option Carrie," I spat. She looked at me and rushed upstairs, knowing she didn't want to cross with me when I was getting annoyed.

I thanked Jake's mum for the breakfast and little 'talk' and followed Carrie upstairs. I entered Jake's room and he was still in a deep sleep. I quietly took my uniform and scurried to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and splashed water in my face. Why am I so messed up? Being a mother to my sister, not having a mother that I can trust and talk to, living in my so called boyfriends house with my little sister, and having no dad that's around either.... God, how I missed my dad. I stopped myself from making the tears escape my eyelids and continued to get dressed. I threw my hair into a tight bun on top of my head and ventured back into Jake's room. Carrie was already dressed and waiting on her mattress with her book-bag in her hand. "Ready to go?" I whispered.

We were just about to leave the room when I heard a crackled voice from behind me. "Jess come here..."

"See you at school Jake."
