Sophie ran from the building and out onto the busy pavement. It was dark out, and she struggled to see her own feet as they pounded on the floor. Have to get home, have to get home, she chanted to herself turning a sharp corner. Her flat was about half a mile away, but she could barely take in a breath. Risking a quick look behind her, she saw a shadowed figure closing in and forced her legs to move faster. The roads seemed to go on forever, but eventually she reached the front door of her building and started typing in the code to open the door. Just as she hit the last button, something grabbed her arm and spun her around.
A man, tall and lean, towered over her, and a shiver went down her spine. She tried yanking her arm out of the man's grip, but it was too tight. Before she knew what was happening, he started dragging her away from the light and towards the alleyway next to the building. Her heart started racing and panic set in. She tried to scream but no air would come from her lungs. Again, she attempted to free herself but it was futile, and soon she was thrown to the ground, her skin scraping against the rough concrete. As the man laughed, he knelt over her, ripping at her clothes, tearing the fabric. Paralysed, Sophie closed her eyes, wishing for someone to see her, help her.
No-one came. No-one heard.
Then, the world turned black as the man, and her pain, faded away with her consciousness.
A/N If you skipped this and went straight to chapter 1, shame on you. This is important.
