Forty five minutes later, Sophie hurried out of her brother's house towards the car waiting outside. They had been sat there for a good fifteen minutes as she'd rushed to get dressed, and had been relentlessly honking the horn at her since arriving. She'd been trying to find something suitable to wear that she would still look alright in, but her wardrobe didn't really scream 'hot'. Normally she didn't care what she wore, especially when she was with her brother. They always just did their own thing, not caring about everyone judging them. She eventually went with skinny black jeans and a sweater with cats on. She could see Simon and Josh in the front, Simon in the driver's seat and Josh riding shotgun. Vik was sat in the back and her stomach flipped as she realised she would have sit next to him for the whole journey. They saw her running towards them and simultaneously threw their hands in the air. Josh stared at her through the window and pressed his middle finger against the glass. She smiled and pulled open the back door. Only, it didn't open. She yanked on the handle a few times, frowning, before noticing Vik doubled over in the back seat. Glancing to the corner of the window, she saw why. He'd locked the door. What a fucking dickhead... She looked up at the sky and let out a sigh of frustration. He does realise he now has to spend the next half an hour in a car with me sat right fucking next to him. She glared at him through the window, and looked over at Simon and Josh, who were also laughing. So, without even thinking about it, she pulled open Josh's door and dragged him out of his seat, onto the pavement. Then she sat in the passenger seat, and shut the door behind her. She didn't even look at Simon or Vik, but their cackling reassured her that they found it as hilarious as she thought they would.

A few seconds later, she heard someone trying to open the door behind her, and turned to see Josh stood outside looking rather forlorn. Vik reached over the seats, almost crying, and opened the door to let him in. He didn't say a word as he shut the door. 'Don't forget your seatbelt, Josh.' Sophie teased, grinning at the deathly glare he answered with. 'Are we done now? Can we go?' Simon asked impatiently, still chuckling slightly. Sophie reached over and turned on the radio to Kerrang! Just as All American Rejects – Gives You Hell started. She flicked up the volume and sat back, looking over at Simon. 'Now we can go.' She held back laughter as she noticed he was wearing glasses. Of course she already knew he had to wear them when driving, but seeing them in real life, sat next to him in his car made it that much funnier. He glanced at her as he prepared to set off, and she burst into hysterics. 'I'm sorry, it's just - the glasses; oh, they look so much more ridiculous in person.' His face dropped and he turned away, concentrating on the road. Her laughter died when she realised she might have hurt his feelings, but after a few minutes, she looked over and saw the hint of a smile playing at the corner of his mouth, and relaxed. He was such a faker. She reached into her pocket for her phone, before remembering again, that she no longer had a phone, and groaned. 'I know I'm super sexy and all, but damn Sophie.' Simon's teasing voice broke the awkward silence that followed, and she slapped his arm. 'Self-flattery is no flattery, Simon. Stop lying to yourself.' She shot back. Vik and Josh screamed in the back, and she grinned to herself as she watched Simon struggle to think of a response. 'It's over Simon, you can't recover from that. Just take the 'L'.' Vik managed between breaths. Sophie turned around and held up her hand at Vik, who hi-fived her. As she went to face forward again, Josh huffed, 'No hi-five for me then, I see how it is. Stop the car Simon; obviously I'm not wanted here.' She glanced at him in the rear-view mirror and smiled, 'Feel free to get out, but we're not stopping unless we hit lights. So in that case, I'd recommend gluing your ass to that second class seat. Now let me listen to my music in peace, you peasant.'

She didn't really mean for her words to come across so harshly, so she winked before turning the volume up more and rolling down the window to swear at people they drove past. The rest of the drive went by fairly quickly, the occasional bit of banter being passed around sparking more fits of laughter, and more threats from the guys to jump out of the car while it was still moving. Eventually, they pulled into the hospital car park, and Sophie sighed heavily. They all sat quietly for a second before Vik spoke up, 'The rest of the guys said they were waiting in reception for us.' He didn't really ask a question but Sophie nodded anyway. She got out and the three of them followed suit. She looked around for directions to reception and spotted a sign in red on the far wall next to a door. A hand touched her shoulder and she jumped away, swatting the offender. Simon stood behind her, rubbing his hand from where she had hit him, 'Sorry, I forgot you don't..' He trailed off, unsure how to finish his sentence. She nodded, and gave him a small smile. 'It's okay.' Her voice was so quiet it was almost a whisper. 'It's this way.' Simon said, pointing to the sign she has spotted. They walked over and Sophie noticed her breathing starting to get faster. She held a breath and closed her eyes for a few seconds, trying to calm herself as thoughts of the previous night flooded her mind. She let the breath out, her teeth chattering. Calm the fuck down Sophie, fucking retard. The guy's in a hospital, he's fine. However, it wasn't the worry that she was too late and Alan had either died from his wounds, or been discharged. She hated hospitals. They reminded her of pain and misery and death. Her nervousness must have shown, as she felt someone fall into step beside her. She looked over and felt immediately comforted when she met Vik's eyes. He held out his hand to her, and she looked at it for a moment before taking it in her own. He laced his fingers through hers and squeezed gently. She squeezed back in thanks, silently hoping he wouldn't let go. She could feel the churning in her stomach easing as they neared the door, her focus shifting from the fear of the building she was about to enter to the hand holding hers.
