Ashley’s P.O.V
I watched as my little girl slept in her hospital bed, her chest softly rising and falling to match the steady rhythm of her hear machine. I clutched her hand tightly, gently stroking the skin with my thumb, before leaning forward to rush some strands of hair from her face.
Where was I?
I should of known something would happen. I should of never let her leave my sight I should of kept her with me and comforted her. What kind of a father was I if I couldn’t even help my own daughter… what would Lucy of turned out like? I shuddered at the thought as I returned my gaze to SJ.
She looked so broke, so fragile, just lying there, with her stitched up arms and the wires all connected to her. All I wanted to do was rip them from her and snatch her up into my arms, to protect her and care for her, to never let her get hurt again, whether it was physically or mentally. To hold on tight and never let her go again.
Suddenly, she gave a moan.
‘No, please don’t…’ she was shaking and whimpering, ‘please…’
All I could do was watch her, feeling so helpless that I was unable to help.
‘No, please, don’t hurt Emma, please, I’ll do it…’
I let a small growl escape my throat; that threat again.
‘Please, it hurts so much… please daddy, stop it…’
Jinxx’s face was whiter than paper and he looked like he was about to be sick. His hands were clutching the side of her bed as he leaned against it for support.
CC had gone green, staring at my baby girl, horror write large upon his features as he clutched her other hand with his right. In his left, I could almost see the small black box he clasped.
Jake hid his face in his hands, and was shaking his head softly, small moans escaping from behind every now and then. I could hear him mumbling and caught words like ‘bastard’ and ‘I’ll kill him’.
Andy was leaning against the wall, his fists clenched by his side, his head slightly tilted upwards, his eyes shut as he bit his bottom lip, disturbing the metal ring that laid there.
‘Shh, shh, Princess, I’m here.’ I soothed, smoothing her hair down. ‘Your proper daddy’s here now, I got you. You can wake up now.’
Instead, she merely quieted down, become silent once again. I sighed; it was better than nothing.
Then, she started up again.
‘Emma, please, wake up, please, c’mon, your big sister needs to see those beautiful oval sparkly grey eyes… if dad has killed you, I will never forgive myself, please Em’s, you gotta wake up…’
I felt my heart shatter at this point – or what wasn’t already broken.
But that still wasn’t the end of it…
‘Daddy, please open the door! Please daddy, I don’t like it out here, the thunder and lightning scare me, please, open up! I’ll be good daddy, I’ll be perfect, I promise, just, please, let me in, I promise! Please… I want Jeremy… I want Jinxxie…’
A tear slipped from my eye, closely followed by the downpour that escaped after, like a tumbling Jenga tower that had just had the wrong brick removed, as I buried my face in my arms, sobbing quietly.
‘Ashley…’ A hand placed itself on my shoulder and I looked up into Andy’s face.
‘Its not fair Andy… what did she do to deserve this?’ I whispered, knowing he would have about as much of an answer as I did. ‘I should of known.’
‘Ashley, don’t beat yourself up over it.’ He said firmly. ‘What’s important now is that she gets better, and everyone is there for her.’
I nodded, looked back at SJ as she began to whimper once more.
Three hours later, she finally settled for what appeared to be good. In those three hours, I had heard things from her that I never wanted to hear, and now had a sour pit in my stomach, knowing she had gone through all this.
‘Hey.’ I looked up to see Jayy in the door, followed by Dahvie and Jeffree. ‘Where’s her band?’
‘They’re visiting Kieran.’ Said CC, speaking for the first time to everyone since the whole incident and sounding like he had a bad head cold.
Jayy nodded. ‘How’s she been?’
‘They gave her some medicine to help speed up recovery.’ Said Jinxx glumly.
‘But it’s caused her to have nightmares about the past. The things I’ve heard… I never want to hear them again…’ Jake shuddered.
‘Thank you very much Jake Pitts.’ Cut in Dahvie.
Jayy had collapsed in a seat next to me.
‘Immediate family only please.’ Said a nurse gently.
‘She doesn’t have any.’ Andy replied from where he had returned to his position against the wall, not even opening his eyes. ‘She’s adopted.’
‘Oh. Sorry. I’ll, um, I’ll just go.’ She said before scampering.
Jayy had reached over and gently brushed her cheek with his palm.
‘Heya little SGTC. Jayy’s here now, c’mon and wake up so I can see your beautiful eyes.’ He whispered.
‘Where did you guys go anyway?’ asked Jinxx curiously.
‘We went to go and get our presents for SJ for when she wakes up.’ Replied Jeffree. ‘It is her birthday soon.’
‘Oh drat’ I saw Jinxx mouth.
‘Don’t worry, we picked yours up from your bus.’ Added Dahvie.
Suddenly, I heard whimpers again. My attention immediately snapped back to SJ.
‘They don’t need me… Kieran would still be here… the guys can find a better guitarist… Jinxx wont worry… CC can find a prettier girlfriend… and Ashley wont have to worry about me… they’ll all be better off without me…’
It was at this point I had to leave the room and go stand outside. Pressing my forehead against the wall, I gave a trembling sigh. It was bad enough to think that someone could go though all that… To know she had…
‘Ashley?’
I looked to see Jayy, who had a bittersweet smile on his face.
‘She’s waking up.’
