'Baz was plotting something, he just had to be plotting something.' Simon had been thinking these thoughts relentlessly throughout the past week. He was acting suspicious, constantly huddled over his desk crammed in the corner of their room, or stalking across the school ground, a huge ominous bag slung over one shoulder.
Simon had no idea what he was up to, but he was determined to find out."Snow, if you keep staring at me, I'm going to have to gauge your eyeballs out of your thick skull." Baz said, his back still turned to Simon's bed, his shoulders hunched over his desk, shielding Simon from seeing what he was scheming.
"I don't know what you're talking about Pitch, I'm not staring at you."
"You and I both know that's not true," Baz almost laughed, spinning around in his chair to stare at Simon. His hard gaze almost made Simon look away, but instead, he raised his chin and defiantly looked back.
"Even if I was..." Baz rolled his eyes, "it's only because I know you're up to something, and I'm going to figure it out."
Baz's face morphed into an incredulous look, "God, I'm a busy man, constantly plotting, and scheming. You must think I have all the time in the world." His sarcasm wasn't lost on Simon and he narrowed his eyes at the black haired boy.
"Well it's all you seem to do, so obviously you have time for it."
"You really think that?" Baz couldn't help the laugh that left his lips, and Simon almost smiled at the sight of it, but then he remembered who it was that was doing the laughing.
"I do really think that c'mon Basil, just admit it."
"Admit what?"
"What you're planning!" Simon practically screamed at the antagonistic boy sitting across from him.
"I'm not planning anything Snow!" Baz stated, his voice still calm but his tightened jaw the only sign of how annoyed he was getting.
"Well then what are you doing all the time hunched over your desk, and walking into The Wavering Woods with a suspicious bag?"
Baz blinked at Simon for several seconds, the words sinking into his brain, and then he began to laugh. This laugh was unlike any of Baz's in the past, instead of his usual sarcastic snickering, or his quiet laughs he allows to fly free when he thinks no one else is listening (Simon is always listening.) But this laugh was loud and raucous and it seemed to light up even the darkest corners of the room, but Baz quietened soon and stared at Simon, with a huge grin still spread across his face.
"You're a fucking idiot."
"Of course, you'd say that, just because I've caught onto your antics!"
"I'm studying you douchenozzle, sorry I want a career when I leave this hell hole."
The room fell silent and Baz still had his shit eating grin planted firmly on his face as Simon mulled over his words and began to blush furiously.
"I don't believe you.""Of course, you don't." Baz sighed and laughed quietly once more, shaking his head before turning back to grab what was sitting on his desk.
Simon braced himself for what kind of weapon Baz would be holding and he reached for his sword just as Baz turned around with a... book in his hand. Simon clenched his jaw to try and stop his face from heating up, but it was no use because Baz was smirking at him and Simon's shoulders slumped.
"Fuck."
"Nice effort Snow, but sometimes I'm actually just being a normal person that needs to study to get through school, especially if I want to beat Bunce."
"Yeah keep trying Baz." Simon sighed and settled down to finally close his tired eyes that were aching from staring at Baz for so long. (Not that Simon could complain about that).
