The sun was setting and it set her hair on fire. An array of warped yellows and golds, all intertwined in a beautiful sheet of sleek and straight hair, hanging half way down her back. Agatha wasn't looking in Simon's direction as he walked towards her, so he smiled softly at the back of her head, her silhouette standing out against the blaze of the setting sun.
"Agatha," he called softly, still a metre away from her and walking closer. She turned and smiled at him, but something seemed off, Simon knew when something was worrying her. Her smile didn't have the same light to it when she was struggling with her thoughts.
"Simon, it's nice to see you," she said, her smile still not reaching her eyes as Simon sat down next to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in for a quick embrace.
"It's nice to see you too, Agatha. And thanks for setting our meeting place here, it's beautiful and nice to be out of the apartment. Baz and Penny are both studying for some exam they have at university," Simon rolled his eye, "it's stress city."
Agatha breathed out a laugh, "How are they? I miss them."
"They're good, other than the stress thing. Both still fully committed to higher education, much to my dismay," he laughed. "So what's up?"
"Well," she paused, taking a deep breath, "I have something to tell you."
Simons' eyebrows arched upwards, his body already tensed in case it was bad news. Agatha noticed this. "It's not bad... at least, I don't consider it bad."
He nodded and relaxed slightly, "Go on, I'm listening."
Agatha took a shuddering breath, obviously struggling to begin, and Simon reached over to grasp her hand, and she smiled slightly. "Well, basically, I've been thinking, and thinking, and thinking, and I can't seem to stop thinking about this; but I think I'm asexual."
When she was met only with his nodding head she was spurned on, "And I think I'm biromantic." Now she was met only with Simon's confused, furrowed brows, and she almost laughed. She would've if she couldn't feel the anxiety wrapped tightly around her throat.
"It means I can feel romantic feelings for all gendered people, but I don't feel sexual attraction. Like I can want a romantic relationship, but I have no urge for sexual activity."
Simon had been nodding along while she spoke, trying to wrap his mind around this new information.
Agatha breathed out a heavy sigh, still not completely unburdened, "Well?"
"Well, what?"
"Do you have anything to say?"
"I love you. And I care about you, and I don't give a fuck about what you are as long as you're happy."
Agatha couldn't help (nor did she want to), the wide grin that bloomed n her face in the fading light, and Simon happily returned it.
"But..." Agatha's smile faltered, "Am I the first person you've told?"
"Yeah," Agatha smiled, " I just thought you'd understand realising something about yourself can be changed and completely realised later, even when you've believed something else your entire life."
Simon smiled and wrapped one arm around Agatha's shoulders, pulling her into a sideways hug, "Of course I understand, and so will Penny and Baz. When do you think you'll tell them?"
She sighed in response, leaning her head onto his shoulder, "I'm not sure. Soon I suppose."
"Take as long as you need, Agatha. But I can be there when you tell them, I want to be there if you need me."
"Of course." The two friends held onto each other and breathed in the cool air. Agatha felt like she had lost 20kgs of dead air around her and her body felt freed somehow. Once she'd told Simon, told anyone, she wanted everyone to know.
"You know what, I think I'm ready to tell them now."
Simon sat back and looked into her eyes seriously, scanning her face slightly, "Are you sure? Because you should wait until you're fully ready."
She smiled, a wide smile that spread completely to envelop her eyes, "I'm ready."
***************
The apartment was warm around the four friends sitting on the couches. The heating had been on to combat the cool temperatures outside and Simon felt safe and content in its warm hearth.
Agatha sat back next to Simon after releasing her news, feeling it dislodge from her chest and swirl around the room. Her hand felt clamming in Simon's, but she clung to him anyway, feeling so much support radiating off of him.
Baz and Penelope glanced at each other microscopically, taking in the news, until Baz broke the silence, "That's it?"
Simon smiled across at his boyfriend and Agatha laughed shakily, "Yes, that's it."
"Wellbelove, remember I say this as a friend, I literally could not care less about your sexuality."
"I think what Basil is trying to say" Penny shot him a look before refocusing back on Agatha, "is that, of course, we just want you to be happy and living your truth, as cliche as that sounds."
Baz nodded, "Exactly. Although I would add that it's completely your business who you decide to fuck, or in your case, not fuck, and anyone that tells you your feelings are invalid can deal with the three of us."
Penny laughed, "Yeah, the two magicians and a half dragon."
"I am not half dragon."
"Yeah, tell that to your tail, Chosen One." Baz laughed.
Agatha watched her three friends continue to speak and joke with each, and with her, and she felt her love for them fill her like nothing else ever had. She smiled at them all/
"Now, who's hungry?" Baz clapped, standing up from the couch.
"Not you, you're a vampire." Simon stood as well.
"Snow, how many times do I have to tell you that I need to eat food, you dense twat." The two boyfriends voices faded as they walked into the kitchen and Agatha laughed at their retreating figures.
Penny pulled Agatha into a hug and spoke softly, "I love you, you know that?"
"I love you too," Agatha said her breath shaky with emotion.
God, she really did love Penny. She loved them all and standing there, in their warm apartment, her heart warmed by their support, she grinned into Penny's unruly hair.
She really was so grateful.
