Chapter 20

"Well?" Sunstar asked staring into Lionpaw's eyes. Lionpaw gave him a questioning look before realising what he meant. "Hello Sunstar" Lionpaw muttered bitterly. Sunstar frowned. "I'd prefer if you'd call me Father from now on" Sunstar ordered.

"From now on?" Lionpaw echoed. Sunstar burst into laughter again. "Yes, as of now you are the heir of Sunclan" Sunstar chuckled darkly. "Heir to Sunclan? You must be mad if you think I'm leaving Fireclan!" Lionstar blurted out. Sunstar's eyes narrowed.

"What was that?" Sunstar growled. "You heard me! I'm not leaving Fireclan!" Lionpaw countered. "You have no choice" Sunstar insisted. "I always have a choice" Lionpaw retorted. Anger surged through Sunstar's eyes, and Lionpaw knew he had taken it too far.

"You will do as I say" Sunstar ordered. "You are not my leader" Lionpaw spat, jumping to his paws. "I am your father! I am in Sunclan, and you will follow me!" Sunstar ranted. "Morningsun was my mother, and I choose to follow her" Lionpaw shot back. He had no Idea where this bravery was coming from.

Sunstar hopped down from highrock, and stood right in front of his son. "You are my son" Sunstar protested. Lionpaw was caught off guard. He wasn't expecting Sunstar to hop down from highrock. "No, I am an apprentice of Fireclan" Lionpaw muttered steadily.

Sunstar's aura darkened, and the golden tom unsheathed his claws. "Say that again and i'll--" Sunstar began but was cut off. "I said I am an apprentice of Fireclan" Lionpaw shouted. "Fool!" Sunstar yowled, as he swung his massive paw at Lionpaw. Lionpaw landed with a thud. "Lionpaw!" He heard someone cry from the crowd.

Its took Lionpaw a few seconds to realize that Honeypaw was by his side. "Lionpaw, come on say something" Honeypaw begged. "That hurt" Lionpaw muttered sheepishly. Honeypaw sighed in relief before glaring at Sunstar. Lionpaw shakily got to his paws and stared at his father, who was glaring back.
