Chapter 24

It had been a couple of days since, Splash had admitted to Greywhisker's Betrayal, but Lionpaw had to be sure, before jumping to conclusions. Greywhisker had been disappearing from camp recently, but Lionpaw was never sure where the tom was going.

Tonight however, Lionpaw would find out for sure. If Greywhisker was in fact Sunstar's lackey, then he needed to be exiled from Fireclan, and fast. Night crept in fast, and most cats were sleeping, but Lionpaw was wide awake, talking with Coalpaw. Coalpaw was in on the plan too.

A sudden rustling caused both apprentices to jump. Coalpaw began to freak out. "Shh" Lionpaw ordered. Coalpaw nodded, and placed his paws over his muzzle. Lionpaw peeked out of the apprentices den and watched silently as a familiar figure slipped into the shadows. Greywhisker.

Lionpaw flicked his tail, signalling Coalpaw to follow. Coalpaw nodded, and got to his paws. Lionpaw waited a few more seconds before springing out of the Apprentices den, Coalpaw trailing behind.

Greywhisker had now passed onto Earthclan's old territory. As of now, Sunclan held power in this part of the forest. Lionpaw began to worry that Greywhisker would enter Earthclan's camp. His worry faded, when Greywhisker stopped, in the centre of Earthclan's territory.

The two apprentices slipped into a bush and waited for something, anything to happen. A few minutes passed before a familiar stench made its way into the area. Lionpaw forced himself not to gag, instead he focused on Greywhisker's stoic expression.

This tom was betraying his clan, yet he felt no remorse? Lionpaw was disgusted. Sunstar made his way into the clearing, and nodded to Greywhisker. "Were you followed?" Sunstar whispered. Greywhisker shook his head. Sunstar nodded, and sat down, his tail curling around his paws.

"Well, what is it?" Sunstar snapped. "Fireclan has lowered its guard. Its safe to attack now" Greywhisker smirked. Lionpaw trembled with anger. He had to force himself not to pounce onto Greywhisker and sink his claws into him.

"Excellent, I will rally my troops and we will march to Fireclan territory within the next few minutes" Sunstar chuckled darkly. "We have to warn Fireclan!" Coalpaw mouthed to Lionpaw. Lionpaw nodded in agreement. Both apprentices got to their paws, being careful not to rustle the bush.

Lionpaw didn't even look back. "Go" He whispered to Coalpaw. With that, both apprentices quietly stalked out of the bushes and dashed back to the safety of Fireclan territory.
