the one where you almost died

Calum was leisurely lying down on his couch scrolling through his Facebook when he came across a post: "could somebody pretend to be engaged to me so we can eat some free wedding cake samples????:)"

it was Luke who posted it, and Calum didn't really know Luke at all, Ashton was a mutual friend of their's and Calum had seen his profile and thought he was pretty hot, and wouldn't mind sending him a friend request.

Calum had never met the guy, he was so far out of Calum's league it wouldn't have mattered anyway. but now Calum tapped into all the courage he had and clicked the comment button on the post.

"yeah I will, where do you wanna meet?"

about 25 minutes later Calum was standing in front of a nearby bakery hyperventilating. he was so nervous about meeting Luke that his anxiety levels were rising and every way this could turn out bad was rushing through his mind. he wanted this to go well, so it would go well, he's calum hood for fucks sake.

a tap on his shoulder made him spin around and come face to face with the devil himself. Luke was wearing a black t-shirt with an unbuttoned black and white checkered flannel over top, black skinny jeans and vans covered his feet. Calum's face reddened after seeing what Luke was wearing, since he wearing almost the same thing: black t-shirt, red and black checkered flannel unbuttoned over top, with black skinny jeans and black vans.

once Luke noticed they were wearing almost identical outfits accidentally, he released a deep chuckle. "so we're that kind of couple, huh?" and Calum's face lowered to the ground as his face reddened even more. he forced himself to breath properly, but when he released his breath it sounded alot more like a wheeze than anything.

Luke dug into his pocket and pulled out two silver rings. he placed one on his left ring finger and gestured for calum to hand him his hand as he started talking. "so I got us these rings from the dollar tree, got to make our 'engagement' look real right?" he placed Calum's ring on his finger and then intertwined their hands as he led them into the bakery.

After about 25 minutes of waiting, bakers gushing over how cute they are, and awkward hand holding, they were finally seated at a back table covered with plates with little pieces of cake on top.

"I hope you don't mind but we only set out one fork, you can share right?" Luke and Calum exchanged a glance and nodded at the baker since they had no choice.

the baker explained each cake flavor and they look turns eating some slices. as they were eating they talked and learned more about each other. Calum learned Luke's favorite cake flavor was chocolate, but he hated chocolate icing because on 5th birthday his brothers shoved his face into his birthday cake and it was chocolate icing. Luke leaned that Calum loved vanilla cake with sprinkles that his mum made him every year. they were getting more comfortable with each have other and it showed; they were more touchy feely and we're feeding each other off the little fork.

soon all three cake was finished except for a lemon piece in the corner. when the baker came back he insisted Luke and Calum try the lemon cake. Luke nodded and put a small piece in his mouth, lemon wasn't his favorite, but he could eat it. he put another piece on the fork and held it up to Calum's mouth that was clamped shut. Luke's eyebrows furrowed in confusion and he gently his the fork against Calum's lips in and near effort for him to open up. Calum grabbed Luke's arm to stop him and turned towards the baker.

"I'm really full, I don't think I could eat another piece" the baker shook his head and began begging calum to eat the last piece and Calum began to rub his face with his hands and he became frustrated. he felt Luke wrap his foot around his and squeeze, making Calum look up at him.

"please just try the cake, I'll buy you a tea afterwards" and when Luke gave him the puppy dog eyes he gave in. he felt the cake sit on his tounge and he tasted lemon for the first time. pretty soon though he couldn't taste anything, his whole mouth was numb and he was pretty sure his tounge wasn't this big a few minutes ago. he could vaguely see Luke's face twist into one of horror before his eyes slipped shut. (I hate myself for this)

when Calum opened his eyes again he was in a hospital bed. his head hurts and his arm stung where through iv was put in. he blinked a bunch of times so his vision could clear and then turned and looked around the room. it was just hospital room, not like he hasn't been in one before. the only thing that surprised him is Luke's sitting in the chair staring up at him with a raised eyebrow.

"so when we're you planning on telling me you are allergic to lemons?" Calum's face reddened and he was saved from answering by the doctor walking in an checking up on calum.

"so calum, do you know why you're here?" Calum nodded.

"I had an allergic reaction to the cake I ate, but why was it this bad, I've never had a reaction this bad before?"

"your heart was racing, so it was pumping blood much faster, so when the enzymes in lemons that you're allergic to entered it was able to go through your body much faster, causing a worse reaction. you may want to figure out what was making your anxiety levels so high" the doctor left and Luke moved back so he was directly in front of Calum again (with an eyebrow raised).

"so when we're you planning on telling me you're allergic to lemon?" Luke repeated the question from earlier and Calum's shrunk down into the mattress.

"I didn't think I needed too, I wasn't planning on eating that cake and then I wasn't planning on having this bad of a reaction, honestly"

"why didn't you tell me you were allergic when I put the cake to your lips?"

"because then it would've been suspicious, you're my fiancé but don't know my allergies?"

"okay, you're right. but why was you're heart beating so fast?" Calum's face grew really red and looked away from Luke.

"maybe I kinda like you and was really nervous and scared that you wouldn't like me"

"I've liked you this whole time, that's why accepted your friend request. I made that post hoping you would see it, I've always thought you were hot too" Calum's ears perked up at that and he smiled bashfully.

"how about I run down to cafeteria and grab us some pudding cups, and we can have our first date right here?" Calum nodded and Luke began to walk out of the room. but right before he left, he turned back around.

"and you can keep the ring, even though I'll probably be replacing it with a better one soon"
