prepare for a bunch of low
key sad ones I have so many ideas-----------
Calum put his tub of cookies and cream ice cream back into the fridge. he plopped on the couch and turned on the TV, settling on watching friends until he fell asleep. but he couldn't help but let his mind wander; his date tonight had gone more than terrible, why did he think he could ever find someone better than-
no, Calum thought, I can't think about him. that's just letting him hurt me all over again. he shook his head to clear his thoughts and zoned back into the TV. his peace was broken when his phone rang; it was the exact person he'd been wanting to speak to and constantly been avoiding for almost 6 months. Calum leaped off the couch and grabbed his phone, pressing it to the side of his face with a breathy "hello?"
there was silence on the other end, but Calum could hear the sounds of outside. Calum swallowed thickly and asked again: "hello?"
a shaky breath was taken, Calum could hear it through the phone and he was just about to ask what he wanted when words started pouring out instead.
"it's my brother's wedding and seeing all these happy couples is killing me and all I can think about is how that was almost us" Luke rushed out all his words in one big breath, yet calum heard him clearly. Calum recognized the slur in Luke voice and noticed he was outside drunk somewhere, probably alone.
"luke, where are you?" Calum began to pull on a sweatshirt over his bare chest and slip on some vans but abruptly stopped when luke uttered
"I'm on your door step" calum froze and willed his heart to stop racing and for his lungs to breath properly. after being away from Luke for 6 months his body was aching, craving to be loved and touched by the blonde haired man, especially now that he was closer than ever.
Calum walked towards the front door and swung it open. there Luke was, posture terrible as he swayed back and forth dressed in black slacks, his white button down shirts untucked and the first few buttons open. his skinny black tie was loosened and hung around his neck, he swung his black jacket over his shoulder with his right hand, and held the phone to his face with his left. he looked exhausted: his face looked unshaven, his eyes a dim grey. Calum's heart ached. he noticed the jack Daniel's bottle and a bundle of flowers laying on the steps beside him, but he didn't look at those for very long, because Luke began speaking again.
"I know that it's two in the morning and I'm dressed really formally and I'm a little bit drunk but I couldn't stop thinking about you after my grandma asked how you were doing, also can I come in its freezing out here?" Luke let the words roll off his tounge as if he'd practiced this many times before. Calum stepped back and put of the way to allow Luke to stumble inside.
he guided Luke to his guest bedroom, and got him ready to sleep. he tucked him in under the covers. just as calum was going to walk out of the room, Luke's voice brung him back.
"I know you heard what I said earlier, please talk to me"
"there's nothing to talk about Luke" calum turned and stared down at the ground.
"then why did you kick me out? you never even told me, I came home to see all my stuff out on the porch and you suddenly hated me. what did I do calum, please tell me" luke was sobbing, his sentence being broken off in awkward places because of his tears.
"you know what you did Luke, how could you not know you hurt me that bad?"
"what did I do wrong calum? please tell me!" luke lowered his head into his hands and sobbed harder.
"that night at the club, you left with that girl. I saw you both touching, flirting, sharing a drink. and then I look up to see you holding her hand and leading her out of the club" tears were streaming down his face at the memory. after his terrible breakup with Michael after cheating he thought he had finally found someone who he could trust, only for them to prove him wrong yet again.
"no, Calum that's not the truth! I didn't go home with her, I didn't sleep with her!" Luke's volume was increasing and he got more fusturated.
"then where we're you all night? if you didn't go to her home, why didn't you come to our home?" Calum wanted answers. after months of pretending it didn't happen, closure was all he wanted. Luke stood up out of bed and took a step towards Calum.
"a that girl was one of my co-workers. we were both drunk off our asses, but I was slightly more sober. her phone was ringing and she wasn't able to answer it so I did, it was her boyfriend calling; he was picking her up. so I grabbed her and lead her outside to her boyfriends car so I could get home safely."
Calum's mouth was dry after hearing Luke. his mind was swimming with the possibilities of Luke being innocent, the ones he pushed down long ago.
"then where did you sleep that night? why weren't you home?" Luke swallowed.
"after I dropped off arzaylea I felt sick. I think I threw up in the gutters, I don't really remember that, but I do remember Ashton, another co-worker, picking me up off the cement and driving me to his place. I stayed there that night" Calum's scoffed.
"how convenient that so many of you co-workers were there that night" luke rolled his eyes.
"if you remember calum, we were at that club to celebrate a promotion Ashton got, it was a work party and I invited you. the bar was filled with people I worked with" calum lowered his eyes and cheeks burned bright and Luke's words. Luke's stepped forward again and used his hand to guide Calum's eyes back up the his.
"it was just so hard, I thought you had cheated on me the very same way Michael did" luke used his other hand to bring calum closer by his waist.
"I told when we first started dating that I would treat you better than him, please give me a chance"
"can we start over again, first date and all?" Calum leaned in a little so he was inches away from Luke's face.
"I would love to"
