I readjusted the collar of my McDonald's uniform shirt for probably the 30th time since I've been on register. There was practically no one here and I haven't served anyone in the last half hour.

I turned around to look at my best friend, Ashton, who was making himself an order of large fries. I rolled my eyes when he looks up at me and put is finger on his lips and walked to the break room door. I turned back around to look at the front door in hopes that more people come in so I can have something to do.

I guess I wished hard enough because in a few minutes 2 guys walked in. or more accurately, one guy was pushed through the door by the guy behind him. I waited until they walked up to my register and asked what they would like. That question caused the boy in front's cheeks to turn a bright pink and the boy behind him to snort as he tried to hold in his laugh. I'm confused, what am I missing here?

"go on Calum, tell him what you would like" the guy in the back managed to get out, since he was laughing so hard. I frowned as the blushing guy took a deep breath before glaring at the other.

"hi, I'm Calum, and this ass of a best friend is Michael" he seemed to have gathered himself after before but he still had bright pink cheeks; I chuckled a little.

"hi, as you can see, I'm Luke. what would you like?" I pointed the the name tag on my chest and waited for them to tell me their order. but when 2 minutes passed and neither had said anything I was beyond confused. just as I was about to ask again Calum spoke.

"um, I think I'll take a smile" wait what?

"what?"

"a smile, one of yours preferably" his cheeks were getting redder by the second and Michael walked away a few feet so he could laugh and not interrupt us. I just stared at him; a smile? what.

I guess Michael's laughter was contagious because the next thing I knew I was leaning over laughing. Nothing up to now had made sense and that just made it all the funnier. Calum was looking back and forth from Michael to me; his lips set in a pout and cheeks still ablaze. I tried to stop laughing, I really did, but every time I stopped and caught my breath another laughing fit came on and I was back to where I started.

after a few more minutes I had gained more control of myself and looked up at Calum.

"okay that was the funniest thing that's happened today. for that, you've earned a 20 piece nuggets for free" I turned around and put some (maybe more than 20) nuggets in the container and turned back around to hand them to Calum. He looks up and smiles at me.

"Can I get some barbecue sauce and a tall, hot, blonde cashier to eat this with me?" I smirked and reached down to grab the barbecue sauce.

"you're lucky barbecue is my favorite sauce too" I jumped over the counter and walked with him over to an empty table.

"and what about me? do I get some nuggets too?" Mikey walked over and crossed his arms.

"no Mikey, go home. you made me do a super embarrassing act on a random person" Calum said while struggling to open the sauce pack. I reached over and took it from him to open it.

"but that act got you free nuggets!"

"just go home" Michael pouted a little more and hesitated before turning on his heels and walking away.

"so this was actually an elaborate plan to get you to go on a date with me" Calum explained while trying the wipe up all the barbecue sauce he spilled on his lap. I rolled my eyes.

"you call eating 20 nuggets, nuggets I got you for free, in the corner of McDonald's a date?" I snorted "you're gunna have to try harder than that"

Calum looked up at me with at hopeful and adorable expression (and sauce all over his mouth) and nodded.

"yeah, yeah, um okay. maybe I will try harder" I looked up at him and couldn't help but smile.

"I hope you do"
