Chapter 11

It had been a few days and I still haven’t gotten a text or call from Nick. I wasn’t worried I just thought he was avoiding me. I thought about it a lot, but I didn’t tell anyone. I went to the Supermarket to get some snacks to go to Allie’s tonight. I obviously looked around to see if he was working, he wasn’t of course. I grabbed my groceries and left.

I drove to Allie’s where Nicole was already and we watched The Challenge Rivals II, it was our favorite show together. Then I got a phone call from a unknown number, so I answered it outside.

“Hello is this Cara?”, a familiar manly voice said on the other line.

“Yes this is she.”, I said confused.

“Hey it’s Nick, I am in the hospital.” He said with a scared voice. I didn’t know what to do so I started pacing, and my forehead crinkled.

“Why, what happened?” I sort of yelled, I was getting worried now and my pace was going faster.

“I got in a car accident, some idiot was texting and driving and ran a red light. I am fine I swear!”. He said in the sexiest voice. In the back of my mind I knew he was okay, but I had to go see him.

“I will be there in 10 minutes.” I said while hanging up the phone. I ran back inside and told Nicole and Allie what happened, and grabbed my keys and left.

As soon as I got there I ran to the lady at the desk, she told me where to go and I took a deep breath and walked into the room he was in. I heard a “Hi Cara” from afar and saw that no one was in the hospital bed. Nick was standing behind me with a paper water cup, drinking it like nothing happened.

I hugged him and saw the scratches on his arms. “Why didn’t you call me earlier?” I yelled at him in the middle of the hallway.

“My phone broke in the accident and I finally got your number tonight.” He said convincingly. He still had a big smile on his face, and I was angry because he did.

I rolled my eyes and said, “When do you get out of the hospital?” as we were walking back to the room he was staying in.

“Tomorrow morning”, he said while putting his drink on the side table and hoping back into the bed.

“Is your mom or dad here?”, I asked him looking up at the ceiling.

“My grandma is here, my parents died when I was 6” He said nonchalantly. I looked at him with confusion thinking he didn’t really just say that.

“What!?!?!” I screamed. I was angry and overwhelmed at the same time. He was just sitting there watching the football game that was on the screen in front of him.

“I didn’t tell you?” He said still watching the TV, occasionally sipping his water.

“Nope, you left that part out”, I felt calmer. I realized that it is probably a touchy subject and he just got out of a car accident. He waved his arm for me to lay on the small hospital bed. I went over and laid next to him, he put his arm around me and he started talking about the football game. I dosed off and went into a deep sleep.
