Chapter 28

After three hours of trying to find Nicole, I finally found her at the Sorority house across from Justin’s. “I have to ask you something important, can we step outside” I asked her in front of her classmate.

“Yeah, what’s up?” She asked as we both walked outside the door.

“I just talked to Nick, he said he wasn’t kissing that girl while we were dating... Why would you make something up like that?” I asked angrily.

“Oh man..” She said looking down. “I didn’t want it to come out like this.” she started again. She starting pacing in front of me. “Well that Tiffany girl starting black mailing me. She said I had to break you guys up and threatened me and Dylan. I didn’t want to trust me, but she was a psycho.” she said looking down.

“Why didn’t you just tell me?” I asked with a worried face.

“She told me not to mention it to you..” Nicole explained.

“I have to tell Nick.. He has to know about her.” I told Nicole as I ran down the stairs into the living room.

“No! Don’t go down there!” Nicole shouted as I was already to the room.

I looked to my left and Tiffany was standing in the next room over, she looked me up and down. I gave her a death stare and said, “Thanks for fucking up my relationship.” I yelled and walked out of the door.

I called Nick and told him about Tiffany, he answered with, “That makes so much sense..” he said sarcastically.

“I am serious. She is psycho Nick. I don’t know why you don’t believe me” I said to him.

“I know we broke up, but I have grown feelings for her over the time we were apart. She is nice, and I can’t believe you for accusing her of Nicole’s mistake.” he said angrily and hung up the phone.

I put my phone in my pocket and went back to the apartment to pick up my laptop to go to class. I knew I was going to have to face Justin, but I thought he should know what was going on. I texted him:

Don’t make plans after class, come to the apartment. I need to talk. -Cara

Okay (: -Justin

I don’t know why he put a smiley face, it was a serious text. I got to class and typed up the notes I needed. Justin and I walked out together and to the apartment. It was a semi quiet walk, some words were said here and there. I went to open the door to the apartment and it was already opened. I didn’t think anything of it.

I heard some rummaging coming from my room. “There is a bat under the couch” I whispered to Justin, pointing to the couch.

I walked closer the room, Justin was in front of me with the blue metal bat. I opened the door to my room and I saw brown hair from the back. Justin walked in quietly so she couldn’t hear us.

The girl turned around and I screamed, “Melissa??” Justin put the bat down in relief. “What are you doing here?” I asked still yelling.

“I needed some jewelry for my date tonight.” she said calmly. She went back to going through the box. “Gezz, I am not a robber.”

“Well you left the door open you know?” I said walking out of the room.

“Oops sorry!” She yelled from the room.

“So now that that scare is over, what did you need to tell me?” Justin asked me as we sat on the couch.

“Well...” I started telling the story of Nick, Nicole, and Tiffany. He was sitting there listening, I thought he was talking it very well.

“Nicole told me about Tiffany at the party. She was scared and she needed me to keep you away from them. I know you still probably love Nick.. But I just want you to know that I do have feelings for you. If you need me to help you with anything, I will.” He said with a happy but sad face. You could tell it was hurting him to say that.

“I do still love Nick.... I like you too, but I need to sort this out before I figure out anything else.” I said hoping to give Justin some hope. I did really like him, I just didn’t expect Nick to come out of no where and back in my life.

“I understand..” He said looking at me with a fake smile.

“Thanks... Since you are here do you want some dinner? We are all cooking tonight.” I asked with a happy face. Hoping he would agree to dinner.

“I would like that, I have to go back to the house for something first and I will be back.” He told as he got up to go to the door.

As dinner time rolled around, Ella, Nicole, Melissa, and I were all in the kitchen making pasta and chicken. It was a fancy meal for us, we usually just have ramen noodles. I heard a knock at the door. I went to answer it and it was Justin.

“Hey! Glad you could make it.” I said welcoming him in.

“Get it!” Ella yelled from the kitchen as she was mixing the sauce for the pasta. I smiled and he helped me make my part of the dinner. We all helped set the table and sat down. Ella served us dinner, she was our little waitress for the night.

“Thank you girls for inviting me for dinner, we don’t have these nice sit down dinners at the house.” He said smiling at all of us.

“You are welcome anytime” Melissa said to him as she was getting some vegetables.

We all ate and afterward had dessert, we played board games and card games. It felt like a family, I was really happy where I was. I wasn’t thinking about Nick or Tiffany at the time, I was just living in the moment.

“Can I talk to you outside real quick Cara?” Justin asked me as he opened the door. We got outside and he took out a medium sized blue box, “I know we aren’t together, but I bought you this necklace. It means hope.” He pulled out this beautiful sliver necklace with a symbol at the bottom. He put the necklace on me from behind.

“It is so pretty, and thoughtful. Thank you Justin.” I said as he put my hair back down. I ran the necklace threw my fingers, looking down at it. He smiled as he looked at me.

He opened the door for me and we both walked in, everyone was staring at us. “Did you guys get married out there what happened?” Nicole said with her sarcastic comments.
