At Hogwarts - Dinner

"Please give a big round of applause to Sapphire Black, who will be working here in assistance to the professors here at Hogwarts!" Dumbledore announced and I stood up, smiling. Applause surrounded the hall once I rose and stopped once I sat back down. As Dumbledore continued with announcements, I looked over at the Gryffindor table and smiled at Hermione and Autumn. I wondered where Ron and Harry were, as they haven't made it to dinner. In fact, I don't remember seeing them on the Hogwarts Express.

"So, what is your name?" Lockhart asked me, kissing my hand. He was most likely staring at his reflection in the spoon instead of listening to Dumbledore after his own name had been announced as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. I heard Severus make a sound that resembled a snigger from my right.

Former friend on the right side, and an arrogant jerk on the other. I guess some things just don't change.

"I'm Sapphire Black, if you have been too busy looking at your reflection than to listen." I told Lockhart and turned to Severus.

"Ah, I see, but it's much too difficult not to look at this face," Lockhart said, my back to him. I rolled my eyes, but didn't reply. Severus looked amused.

"So, Snive- I mean Severus, sorry. I'm sorry. How are you?" I asked him. I was about to call him Snivellus, but it was an honest mistake. That was the last name I remember calling him before we hadn't seen each other for over 20 years.

"Ha ha. I've been better. It's been a long time. You've changed." He told me, all in a monotonous voice.

"I can say the same for you, Sev....erus. Severus." I corrected myself quickly.

"Y-you called me Sev." His eyes softened a bit.

"What's it to you?" I snapped. "I was just trying to be polite."

"Riiight." He said, sarcastically, yet still icily.

"You were seen by no less than seven muggles." Severus slammed the paper down, causing me to jump a bit in my seat. "Do you have any idea how serious this is?" He told Harry and Ron.

They missed the train and instead, took Arthur's flying car to Hogwarts. I have always wanted to try out the thing, but I didn't dare say that out loud just yet. Harry has been studying me, most likely wondering why I'm here.

"You have risked the exposure of our world." Severus kept saying. "Not to mention the damage you inflicted on the Whomping Willow that has been on these grounds since before you were born," He told them, spitting a bit. I opened my mouth to say something, but Severus glared at me and I closed it instantly. Before you were born. He said it with such venom in his words. I knew that, like me, thought about memories of this tree that managed to hurt us.

"Honestly, Professor Snape, I think it did more damage to us." Ron managed to say. I let out a laugh, thinking about how much Ron and Harry resembled Sirius and James.

"SILENCE!" Severus screamed out, and it caused me to shut up.

"Sorry..." I apologized.

"I assure you," Severus stood up and walked to the boys. "that were you in Slytherin and your fate rested with me, the both of you would be on the train home tonight! As it is...." He was cut off.

"They are not!" Dumbledore stood near the door with McGonagall. I looked up at them.

"Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall." Harry said, relieved.

"Headmaster, these boys have flouted the decree for the restrictions of underage wizardry. As such..." He was cut off again.

"I am well aware of our by-laws, Severus, having written quite a few of them myself. However, as head of Gryffindor house, it is for Professor McGonagall to determine the appropriate action." Dumbledore explained.

"We'll go and get our stuff then." Ron looked down in shame.

"What are you talking about, Mr. Weasley?" McGonagall asked.

"You're going to expel us, aren't you?" Ron asked.

"Not today, Mr. Weasley." She said and the boys looked up. "But I must impress on both of you the seriousness of what you have done. I will be writing to your families tonight and you will both receive detention." She finished. The two of them looked at each other happily.

"You are dismissed." Severus said after McGonagall and Dumbledore left. Harry and Ron walked out of the room.

"I'll be right back." I told Severus and walked out as well. "Flying car, huh?" I smirked, walking up to the two of them.

"Yes, we know, it was irresponsible and..." Ron began.

"Was it fun? I've always wanted to ride that thing." I asked. They looked at each other in surprise, but nodded, grinning.

"Wait, what are you doing here, Sapphire?" Harry asked.

"I work here now. You'll see me assisting the professors in certain classes. I'll be alternating." I said happily.

"Great!" They said in unison.

"Now go to your dorms and get some sleep. I'll see you two tomorrow." I said and they nodded, walking away.

"I'm back." I told Severus, walking back in the room.

"Hello." Emotionless voice.

"What's gotten into you? Where has the emotion in your voice disappeared?" I must've looked concerned, as I was.

"Left." He dismissed the subject. I groaned and rolled my eyes.

"Look, I called you Sev before because I like that nickname. So maybe we can bury the hatchet and be friends again? Sev and Saph? It might be too much to ask, but I have nobody right now. I could use a friend." I asked him, with pleading eyes and my lower lip stuck out.

"Alright." He gave in after a little hesitation. My mouth formed into a huge smile and his lips twitched very slightly. I bid him goodnight and walked away, into my comfortable bed for a nice, deep sleep after a long day back at Hogwarts once more.
