"I found this at the base of the Whomping Willow," said Snape, keeping his wand point at Remus' chest. "Very useful, Potter, I thank you....You're wondering, perhaps, how I knew you were here?" he said, his eyes glittering. "I've just been to your office, Lupin. You forgot to take your potion tonight, so I took a gobletful along. And very lucky I did... lucky for me, I mean. Lying on your desk was a certain map. One glance at it told me all I needed to know. I saw you running along this passageway and out of sight."
Wait. The potion was still in my pocket...which means either Severus is lying, or there was another. Either way, I was sure it was my cue to say something, or at least let Remus take his potion, but by the time my hand even reached for the goblet, I realized it was the wrong time. Severus was definitely not going to listen, and no matter what I'd say, I would get interrupted. I continued standing there still, near Sirius, and the warmth that surrounded us. That warmth that I've missed so much.
BANG! The next thing I know, Remus is in snake like cords, and Sirius walks from my side to Severus, growling. Severus points his wand at Sirius.
"Give me a reason," he whispered. "Give me a reason to do it, and I swear I will."
Both faces showed pure hatred.
"You wouldn't dare, Sniv-" Sirius started.
"Sirius." I stopped him from saying it. God, I know what Severus is doing is far from right, but that nickname was surely getting old. At least that's how I remember thinking back in the 5th year. Back on the train where Sirius first decided maybe he shouldn't hurt me. Severus looked at me, half with appreciation and still half with elation.
"And you, get your wand away from him this instant. You've got no right barging in here and doing this." I hissed at him.
"Don't talk about what you don't understand, Sapphire." He chuckled darkly.
"I understand just fine, thank you. I've went through it just as much as the likes of you did." I was angry. Angry at him for acting so selfish.
"Vengeance is very sweet," Snape breathed at Sirius, ignoring me completely. "How I hoped I would be the one to catch you...."
"The joke's on you again, Severus," Sirius snarled. "As long as this boy brings his rat up to the castle" -- he jerked his head at Ron -- "I'll come quietly...."
"Up to the castle?" said Severus silkily. "I don't think we need to go that far. All I have to do is call the dementors once we get out of the Willow. They'll be very pleased to see you, Black... pleased enough to give you a little kiss, I daresay... I --"
"You -you've got to hear me out," Sirius croaked. "The rat -- look at the rat --"
"Come on, all of you," Severus said, not caring about what anyone had to say. He clicked his fingers, and the ends of the cords that bound Remus flew to his hands. "I'll drag the werewolf. Perhaps the dementors will have a kiss for him too--"
Harry blocked the door.
"Get out of the way, Potter, you're in enough trouble already," snarled Severus. "If I hadn't been here to save your skin--"
"Professor Lupin could have killed me about a hundred times this year," Harry said. "I've been alone with him loads of times, having defense lessons against the dementors. If he was helping Black, why didn't he just finish me off then?"
"Don't ask me to fathom the way a werewolf's mind works," hissed Severus. "Get out of the way, Potter."
"YOURE PATHETIC!" Harry yelled. "JUST BECAUSE THEY MADE A FOOL OF YOU AT SCHOOL YOU WON'T EVEN LISTEN --"
