The next day when Alex and Scott had awoken from the little sleep that they did get, they headed on over to Kevin's house. The drive was long and quiet, which was weird for them. The radio was turned down low and both of them held sluggish tired demeanours. Alex drove, which was probably a good idea, considering Scott still seemed to be teary eyed. He just couldn't stop and he didn't understand why. Well he did, Mitch was part of the reason he was still alive and now death was staring him directly in the face.

They pulled into Kevin's driveway and saw that the front door was open. Kevin's wife, Andrea, stood in the porch, stacking up shoes that looked as though they were used for church. They had just arrived home and she had quickly polished them for next week. She had a child balanced on her hip, Adam, who was their two year old and the youngest of the kids produced by Pentatonix.

She spotted the car in the driveway and waved to the boys, who opened the doors and began to walk towards her. She smiled. "Hey, guys." Her voice was soft and smooth but she seemed tired. Scott hadn't thought, maybe Kevin didn't get much sleep last night either, he hadn't even seen Mitch. Yes, Kevin had only known Mitch for a fraction of the time that Scott had known him but they were close and Mitch was just so loveable.

"Hi, Andrea. How are things?" Alex asked, trying to keep the mood light hearted. She sighed a little and nodded. She lifted Adam up some more so that he wouldn't fall from her hip and then turned her attention back to the boys.

"As good as they could be. Kevin's inside with the rest of them. We just got back from Church." She explained and led them through the doorway into the large open house. Kevin had four kids and they were his world. He treated them with the utmost respect and loved them all equally. Alex wondered if things were about to change, would he see things differently.

Kevin was sat in the sitting room, Fiona, his nine year old, sat by his side. Toby and Helena, Kevin's twelve year old, sat on another couch listening intently to what Kevin was talking about. Connor and Jessica were no where to be seen. Kevin stopped when he noticed his wife leading the boys into the living room.

"Hey," he said. His voice sounded hoarse but Scott couldn't tell if it was from the obvious crying that he had been doing, judging by his red eyes, or from talking to the kids who sat in front of him. Toby looked up at them and smiled, wanting to go and pull them into a hug but deciding against it.

"Hi, thanks for looking after them last night." Scott said. Kevin smiled and pointed towards the chairs dotted around the room, signalling for them both to sit down. There was three couches and two love seats in the large sitting room. After a silent exchange of eye contact Scott and Alex decided to sit in the couch to their left nearest the door.

Andrea shuffled off out the door, child still balanced on her hip, towards the kitchen, possibly to make drinks. "How is he then?" Kevin asked, breaking through the silence of the room. Fiona had stood up and was now pulling at a book which was under the coffee table in the middle of the room. She then situated herself in the corner and began to read. Helena elbowed Toby lightly in the side and he then followed her out of the room and towards the kitchen.

"Um- he's alright. I haven't talked to him this morning but last night he was okay. He's got some cancer in his blood or something and they are going to operate on him at some point. It's a 50/50 chance he'll come out of it. But yeah..." Scott explained, catching Kevin up on what he'd missed. Kevin nodded taking in a sharp breath.

"Has he told the others?" Kevin asked.

"No, not yet." Scott stated. He turned a little to Alex who smiled sadly at him. Alex then turned back to Kevin and let out a long heavy breath.

"Listen, can we talk you and Andrea with Connor and Jessica?" Alex's eyes flitted over to Fiona and he chose to add, "Alone."

Kevin looked at him a little confused and nodded. He ushered Fiona out of the room and soon all six of them were sat in the sitting room. All on different couches. A silence seemed to linger around them like smoke coming from a chimney. Scott and Alex knew. Jessica and Connor knew. Kevin and Andrea had no idea.
