This is a long one, you might want to make a cup of tea and sit down somewhere before reading. I have come to you guys without any warning. This is the last chapter. I shall post the epilogue during the week. But this is the last official chapter... I just want to say thank you to everyone who has read and voted and commented. This series has been my life for about a year now and I can't believe it's coming to an end. I hope you guys enjoy and know that I love you guys! Xx

The adoption day came along pretty fast. The light of day being the thing to wake them all up. Their court session was booked for 1:30 which meant they could go for dinner after it was over.

Scott woke first at around 9 am, his brain buzzing with fear and excitement. Elliot hadn't slept over that night like he had been doing for the last three weeks. But Scott had noticed how a lot of his things were hanging around the house, books, toys and clothes included.

The sun was bright that morning and shone into the kitchen window, illuminating the counter tops and making everything shine. The birds were twittering merrily, signalling the joy and excitement of the day ahead. It was going to be a good one that was for sure.

Scott began to stir a cup of coffee when he heard a knock on the front door. His feet were slow to answer it, the morning pulling a sluggish demeanour over him. But another feeling was there as well, content.

He opened the door to reveal Mitch stood with a bright smile on his face. Scott couldn't help but to smile back, giving him a quick hug before welcoming him in. "What are you doing here?" Scott asked, although he wasn't unhappy about it. His best friend always knew of the right moment to come over and give him a reassuring hug, a kiss on the cheek and a pep-talk that could make anyone feel ready for the day ahead.

"To wish you luck for today. I hope it all goes well." Scott couldn't help but to notice the beam that hadn't left his best friends face. He handed him a cup of coffee and then sat down across from him. The smile still hadn't faltered. His eyes crinkled, a sort of happiness there that Scott hadn't seen in a while. Not that Mitch wasn't happy all the time, he just looked more happy now. Scott was slightly confused.

"What's got you smiling so much?" He asked, grinning at Mitch's contagious attitude. "Like, aren't your cheeks hurting?" Mitch laughed at him, shaking his head. He wore a snap back today, which had been swivelled backwards. Scott recognised it as one of his own, one that had gone missing a long time ago. He chuckled. He would literally have to start putting locks on his closet doors before long. Between Mitch and Alex half of his stuff had been stolen.

"I had my last chemo this morning." Mitch revealed, his voice soft. Scott's eyes blew wide as he jumped up to smother Mitch in a bone crushing hug. "I have to go back next week for a checkup but it's all gone. They caught every last bit." Scott's chin was resting against Mitch's head and Mitch's arms held onto him tightly. The hug was warm and comforting and absolutely full of pure and utter relief. Joy spread throughout both of their bodies, coursing along their veins and mixing together. Hugs like this only came along once in a while and the last time Scott remembered hugging Mitch like this was when he had told him that he and Seb were adopting Jake! Three years ago!

"Oh my god, Mitch! Go you! I told you that you would beat it. I knew you were strong enough." Scott felt a tear slide down his face and onto Mitch's forehead. It was like all the convincing he had been doing to himself and to Mitch had payed off. He wasn't going to lose his best friend to a disease that you can't control. He had held on too tightly for anything to get in his way. And just like he had told Jake, he and everyone who loved Mitch had stood in front of Death and told him to 'fuck off!'

"Scott?" Mitch asked. Scott nodded in response, not wanting to give away his tears. But now they were in full flow and it was almost impossible. "Are you crying?" Mitch held him at arms length, his wide smile still present. He wiped away Scott's tears gently, giggling at his best friends reaction. This caused him to tear up also, his eyesight becoming blurry all of a sudden.
