Our decision was to wait until night, so we would have the advantage. Sure, they had flashlights and flood lights but it doesn't mean they always work.
Loki, being a completely awesome being, some how caused all of the guards' flashlights and flood lights to die. It was pretty funny hearing all of the freaked out shouts of the guards when their lights went out simultaneously. Although it only gave us a free path of a few minutes because it wouldn't take them long to get out bigger lights.
We bolted, towards the hospital. It was only three blocks away and Loki's diversion should have given us enough time.
Should have.
I was momentarily blinded when the street suddenly lit up, above us, someone had gotten one of the flood lights working.
"Oh, crap." I muttered. I picked up speed, Loki and Skye did the same. We had a block left when they opened fire. The first bullet shot past me and I let out a yelp.
Loki pushed me forward, waving his hand behind him to deflect most of the bullets. They ricocheted and clattered to the concrete, something hit my thigh but I kept running.
All three of us passed the force field at the same time, turning to watch the remaining bullets hit and flatten against the invisible wall.
It was at that moment that I realized my thigh was hurting really bad. I looked down at my leg and saw blood. One of the bullets must of clipped me, leaving a deep gash on my thigh.
"Well look at that," I groaned in pain. "I must be a bullet magnet."
Loki spun at my words, his eyes landed on my bloody hand that I was holding against my leg. His eyes widened and he quickly knelt next to me.
"It seems you are." He chuckled weakly, trying to remain calm.
"Good thing we're by a hospital." I laughed before cringing again. Loki gently picked me up and started towards the hospital doors.
Skye opened the doors for us and the sight that was inside was heartbreaking. All of the residents of Wolf Peak huddled along the walls of the hallways, all of them lost their homes to Hydra.
Loki walked down the hallway carefully, a nurse walked up to us.
"Follow me." She urged but another woman laid her hand on the nurses shoulder.
"I've got them, you can go back to the nursery." She explained, before turning to us. The woman had dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. A name tag on her jacket read, Doctor Kal.
"Come on." She said softly, watching me with sad eyes. Loki followed after her quickly and she led us to an empty room. Loki set me down on the bed.
"You're Eir aren't you." I whispered as the woman closed the door silently. The woman turned with a small smile on her lips.
"Yes, I am." She answered as she crossed the room.
"May I?" She asked motioning to my leg and I nodded. Eir moved her hand so it was hovering just over the bullet wound. Her hand started to glow a soft gold color and the wound stopped stinging. I looked down and watched as the gash on my leg disappeared.
"Woah." Skye gasped. Eir pulled her hand away and turned to to Loki.
"You're lucky that you brought them will you because do I have a bone to pick with you." She snapped quickly, pointing at Loki. He seemed to sink away as if he was fearful of her.
"You're also very lucky that your mother and I were very close friends. If not, I would have already kicked your butt for the Manhattan incident." Eir added but let a empathic smirk draw at her lips.
"I know why you are here, can I see the mark?" Eir suddenly announced, focusing her attention back on me. I slowly pulled up my jacket sleeve and almost screamed.
The mark was no longer a small black swirl, it was twice its original size and wrapped around my entire wrist.
