Once Upon a Time: Ever After High (Book 3)

Ch.5 It's complicated

At Ever After High, the high school for the sons and daughters of famous fairytale characters, Raven Queen made her way to the dragon stable where she pulled open the door and went in. She saw the other dragons in their stall either eating, sleeping, or just wondering off into space. They all turned to her as she walked in, squishing the hay beneath her feet as she came to a stall and saw a purple dragon the size of a large dog in it.

"Hi Nevermore" Raven smiled as the dragon jumped to her feet and ran to the wooden gate

She put her paws on the gate and started to lick her owner's face.

"It's good to see you too" Raven smiled as she stroked her dragon's smooth scales that coated her body "Do you wanna go for a ride, I really feel like I need a break from school".

Nevermore jumped up and down with enthusiasm and her tongue sticking out as Raven opened the door and her dragon walked out.

"Come on" Raven said as Nevermore followed her outside.

She then watched as Nevermore grew into her full size, it was a special ability Nevermore had since she first became Raven's pet. But before Raven could climb on, she heard someone call her name, she turned around and saw Dexter Charming, son of King Charming coming towards her.

"Oh, hey Dex" Raven smiled.

"What are you doing out here?" he asked.

"Oh I just felt that I needed a break from school, so I'm gonna take a ride on Nevermore".

"That's cool".

Raven couldn't stop looking into his dazzling blue eyes, even with his glasses on, his eyes popped. Raven and Dexter were in a bit of a complicated relationship, they knew they liked other, and they've been on dates, but they just didn't know when they should become an official couple, especially since they were worried if others would appreciate them being together.

"So uh..." Raven said awkwardly "What are you doing here?"

"Professor Knight allowed me to take a break from Hero Training today, especially since today's assignment considered a dragon blowing fire us".

Raven knew that Dexter wasn't as heroic as his family name, his brother Daring Charming was more heroic and lived to his name. He and his brother were pretty different, while Daring was brave and girls swoon over him, Dexter was considered an outcast and always living in his brother's shadow.

"Yikes" Raven said surprised "Hero Training could be dangerous sometimes".

"Yeah" he sighed "But that's what it's for, to prepare future heroes for their stories".

Raven saw the sad look in his eyes.

"You still don't know what your destiny is?" she asked.

"No" he sighed.

"Well, I'm sure you'll find out soon" she assured.

"I hope, but I'm more worried on what it is, I mean, what if my destiny involves me fighting, I'm not a good fighter".

"Dex" Raven said with a small smile "Don't you remember? We can choose our own destinies now, you can rewrite your story".

"Yeah but" he said nervously "What will my parents think if they find out about that?"

Raven gave a sigh.

"I don't know" she sighed "I guess we'll have to wait for the best".

Dexter gave a sigh.

"You know what?" Raven said "I know what will make you feel better, how about a relaxing dragon ride with me?"

"Really?" he said surprised.

"Sure" she smiled as she climbed on Nevermore "It'll be fun".

"Well" he said as he thought about it "All right".

"Sweet" Raven smiled "Hop on".

Dexter got on Nevermore's back.

"Here we go" Raven said as Nevermore took off into the air.

Dexter quickly grabbed onto Raven's shoulders as she gave a small laugh. But then he gave a small smile as he and Raven rode Nevermore through the sky and over Ever After.

On her way to lunch, Elena passed through the crowded hall towards the cafeteria when she accidentally bumped into someone. When she saw who he was her eyes widen, as so did he. Terrence Kenneth, also known as Dexter Charming faced her with his piercing blue eyes through his black rimmed glasses.

"Oh, hey Elena" he said shyly.

"Hi Terrence" she smiled shyly.

There were times when the two felt awkward around each other, but there were also times when they would bond. They've been on dates and were actually each others Homecoming dates, they were even close to kissing before, but it was interrupted before it could even happen. It was a complicated relationship, and both of them felt that it shouldn't be complicated anymore since they knew other really well, especially since they got their memories back.

"So uh" Elena said "How are things doing with Darling?"

"It's going well, she told us about her adventures in Wonderland and stuff like that".

"Oh yeah, Lauren told me about it too, sounds like they had a pretty amazing adventure".

"Yeah" he agreed.

Elena then looked at the clock on the wall.

"Oh uh, I need to get to lunch" she said.

"Oh" Terrence said "Sorry I kept you waiting".

"It's fine, but I'll see you around".

"You too" he smiled as they both went their separate ways.

"Oooo" Olivia giggled as she joined Elena.

"Stop it" Elena smirked.

"Oh come on" Olivia said "When are you guys gonna become an official couple? Seriously, you guys would be so cute together".

"We're taking things slow, it's complicated right now, and I just think we need some time".

"But you guys aren't strangers anymore, he likes you and you like him".

"Olivia, I appreciate the motivation, but I just want to take things slow right now".

Olivia gave a sigh.

"All right" she sighed "I just can't wait to see you guys finally become a couple".

"Well you're gonna have to wait for that" Elena said as they walked into the cafeteria.
