My Mythical Best and My Mythical Worst

     I knocked nervously on the door to Link's house. I don't know why I was so nervous. The door opened and Link gave me a huge award winning smile.  "Hey. Come in. Dinner's almost ready." I smiled and walked in. "So, how are you liking L.A?"I laughed a bit and said "It's alright. It's nothing like Michigan." 

     "What is it like in Michigan?" 

     "Well, I lived in a small town, White Cloud. We didn't have much. There weren't so many people. I knew almost everybody who lived in the town and the next two towns over." I smiled thinking about home and laughed. He smiled and walked back the the kitchen. "Make yourself at home." he said and I smiled and sat on a bar stool that was next to the counter separating the kitchen and living room. I pulled out my phone and read the text message from Katie, my best friend from home. We had been best friends for a long time. She moved to my school in 7th grade and we've been best friends since. 

Katie - hey, babe hows moving going?

Me - Pretty great. The movers dropped the box of dishes from the wedding. They all broke. :(

Katie - awww... poor baby

Me - I have to go. TTYL! LoveYou!!!

Katie - Bye, love <3 u 

     I put my phone back in my pocket and watch Link cook for a couple more minutes. "Done." He says excitedly. "Wanna eat here, or the table?" I shrugged. He smiled and put the plated food in front of me. I look at it questioningly. There are green beans, mashed potatoes, and steak. I eat the green beans and mashed potatoes before looking at the steak. I feel awful for not telling him I'm a vegetarian. 

     "How is moving going?" He asks and I divert my eyes from the steak on my plate. I shrug. "You don't talk much, do you?" I look down as my cheeks inflame with crimson coloring. "Sorry." I say thinking about if I should eat the steak or not. "Is something bothering you?" He asked. I look at the steak again and he realizes that I'm staring at it. "What is it? You can tell me anything." I look up at him and say "I'm a vegetarian." He laughed. "Why didn't you just say so? Are you still hungry? I can make you something else." I shake my head "No. That's alright." He smiles. 

     "Wine?" He asks and sets two glasses on the counter. I look up and smile. "Sure. Why not?" He laughs and fills both glasses. I pick it up and look at him. Clink! Our glasses sound as they hit each other. I take a sip of the wine. "How old are you?" I asked and regretted it as soon as it left my mouth. 

     "37, you?" He smiled. "32." A five year difference. I took a drink. "What do you do for a living?" I asked politely. "I make YouTube videos with my lifelong best friend. What about you?" he smiled. "I don't have a job." I said and looked down in embarrassment. "Well, what do you do?" He said. I shrugged and took another drink "I don't do anything." 

     He sighed and grabbed a pen and sticky note. He scribbled down something and handed it to me. "Come see me tomorrow. Just give me a call before you do." I smiled. "What for?" I asked. "A job, silly." He laughed a little. I blushed "You don't have to do that." He laughed again. "No. I don't. I want to though." I smiled. 

     "Thanks. I better get going." He smiled and said "Alright. See you tomorrow?" I nodded and got up to leave. He followed me to the door. I turned around. "Thanks for dinner." I smiled. "No problem. It was my pleasure." He pushed his shoulders up. He looked like a cutie. I looked into his eyes and smiled. He leaned in and tried to kiss me. I backed up and shook my head. "I can't." and tears started streaming down my face and I ran.
