Trusting Each Other

***Jaden*** 

     "Jaden?" Link said but I didn't feel like answering him so I sniffled so he knew I was listening. "Will you marry me?" He said almost inaudible. I sniffled again and nuzzled into his neck more. I didn't want to talk. I was scared. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. In one month my dad died, I got pregnant, and my boyfriend was proposing the wrong way. Not that I cared how he proposed. 

     We stayed like that for a while longer before Rhett opened the door and saw us. "Hey, Rhett." Link said and I pulled away from Link and waved at Rhett. I walked by him and out of the office and wiped my tear stained face. I sat down at my desk across from Mike and Alex and next to Lizzie. 

     "Wanna go with me to make sidewalk soup?" Alex said. I looked at him strangely expecting an explanation. "For this weeks will it? They are doing will it soup." I nodded and grabbed Link's GMM sweater from the back of my chair and put it on. He grabbed his keys and we went to the car. "What's actually in sidewalk soup?" He asked and looked over at me. I shrugged. I didn't want to talk still. "Well, probably things on the sidewalk. Like street meat, and maybe some weeds, and gum maybe." he suggested. I shrugged and looked out the window. "Alright. Let's start with street meat." I nodded just agreeing with anything he said. 

***Link***

     "Hey, Rhett." I said as he walked in and I tried to smile a little at him failing epically. Jaden left my embrace and walked out the door behind Rhett. "Is she ok?" Rhett asked. I sighed and plopped down into my chair and put my head in my hands. Rhett put a hand on my shoulder and rubbed a little. "Don't worry, brother. Everything will work out." He said. I turned to look at him as a tear rolled down my cheek. "Can I tell you something and ask for advice?" I asked him, and he nodded. I didn't know who else I could talk to. Jaden was either mad or just really upset. 

     "Jaden told me she was pregnant, or at least she was really sure that she was and she started crying and I asked her to marry me." I started crying and pulled a ring out of my pocket. "I was going to ask her soon but I just couldn't find the right time. I wanted to take her to lunch but she went with Alex." Then it hit me. Was Jaden cheating on me with Alex? They had been spending a lot of time together in the past week. They went out to lunch today and yesterday and the day before that. 

     I picked up my phone and called her. It rang once, twice, three times, then she picked up. "Are you cheating on me with Alex?" I asked. She sniffled. I heard Alex in the background talking. "Who is it? Is it Link?" I wanted to hang up because that was all I needed to know, but I didn't. I started crying and I said "how could you? I thought we had something." I could tell she started crying to. "No." She whimpered through the phone. "No." She said it more clearly that time. "No." She said again and sniffled. "I want to marry you, I want to have kids with you and raise them with you. I love you, Link. Like I've never loved anyone." She started crying more. 

     Rhett was watching me cry and I took off my glasses and wiped my eyes. What was happening? I was so confused. I just wanted Jaden back in my arms to hold her. I didn't know how I believed her after I heard Alex in the background but I did. She sniffled again and hung up. I looked at my background picture of her and me. Her chin was on the top of my head and she was laughing and I was smiling. I wiped my tears away, turned off the phone, put my glasses back on, and got back to work.
