~Lydia's pov~I was reading one of my many favourite book. I was surrounded by one of my many favourite things of all time, books, the royal library was massive and one of my many favourite rooms.
I looked up appreciating the beauty of the magnificent room. I wonder why my mum never takes this room for granted. It was like the real life beauty and the beast library.
"Lydia!" I heard the maid call for me. "Yes, Gertrude! I am in the library!" I called after for her. The young maid walked into the room.
"Ah, yes. Your mother is calling for you, she said that she wants you to go to the throne room immediately, it is important she says.""Okay, I am on my way, once, I finish my page." I finished the page I was on and made my way down to the throne room. Both my parents sat waiting for me, looking rather impatient.
"Mother? Father? Why did you call me down? What is the problem?" I questioned. My parents looked at me with a worried expression. "Listen Lydia, your father and I have recently found out that your father is sick. So you, as the heir, will have to find a suitor and take the throne." I looked at them in shock, I cannot believe that my father is ill.
"Lydia, we have set out one of the finest bachelors to come and try to be your suitor. Also a Duke will arrive here today and try to be your suitor, he will be here at any minute; make sure you look your best. Oh, and please don't forget to be nice."
"Wait, are you telling me that I cannot pick out my own husband!!" the queen looked at her daughter taken back.
"Lydia, dear, do not shout at me. A young lady like yourself, shouldn't shout at her own mother." she scolded at me. "And Lydia, do not forget that this is your duty as the heir to look after the kingdom, after your father and I leave the throne."
I walked off but before I left the room I was stopped by a call. "Lydia? Where are you going?" I looked at my parents and simple stated "Well, I will have to get changed into something more formal now, wouldn't I?"
My parents smiled and said "That's the spirit!" I walked out of the throne room and entered my chamber room.
I honestly hate this so much! After I meet this stupid "Duke" I will go out and ride on my horse, Midnight, and go to the nearby towns. I loved my horses more than anything in the world. I would ride for hours and hours and race my best friend Allison Argent.I started to pick out dresses, from my gigantic wardrobe. "Gertrude? Could you please help me out here? I am in my chambers!" I called for her. Gertrude entered my room almost immediately. "Miss Martin, is everything alright?" I smiled at her
"For the last time, call me Lydia, you do not have to call me Miss Martin. By the way, could you please help me pick out a dress?" the middle aged maid smiled at me. "Oh, I would love to!" she giggled with excitement. I smiled and started the scavenger hunt for the perfect dress, through all the billions of dresses I own.
"What do you think this blue dress" Gertrude lifted up a dark blue strapless dress. "I love that dress, but I am planning to wear it for the ball. You know what, on second thoughts, yes that dress would do perfectly fine" I smiled. Gertrude excused herself and left the room, to give me some privacy to change.
I got into the dark blue dress and left my hair in curls; I didn't bother with my make up because I didn't want to give this guy the satisfaction of thinking I actually bothered for him.
I lefted my room and made my way to the entrance hall, where my parents waited. "Lydia, you look lovely, darling! You are also on time, the Duke has just arrived." my mum excitedly.
As if on cue there was an announcement stating that the Duke Jordan Parrish, has arrived. I rolled my eyes. Ugh, he already sounds like a arrogant, cocky, hot-headed idiot.
A carriage arrived and the doors opened revealing a man, he looked like he could be my uncle or something. And yes I am correct with him being arrogant, oh how I can not wait to reject him. I slightly smiled at my thoughts. The man bowed and then walked up to my parents and introduced himself.
"Hello, I am Duke Jordan Parrish. Duke of...." I zoned out, I couldn't care less where he was from, idiot land is where he's from and belongs there.
He kissed my mother's hand and then mine. I sarcastically smiled at him; however, this guy is such an simpleton he didn't notice it.
"Hello, Lydia, I have heard alot about you being gorgeous, but I never knew how much, until now" I glared at him and my mother nudged me.
"I apologise, will you please excuse me and Lydia for a moment?" she excuse us out of the room. My mother took me into the dinning room and shut the door behind her.
"Lydia, what did tell I you about being nice?" my mother scold at me.
"Mother, he is just so old! He was probably around my age when I was born!" I exclaimed at her. "I understand that I need a husband, but why don't you perhaps pick out a bachelor around my own age!" I was so frustrated at them, why was it hard for them to understand this?
My mother looked at me and simply nodded. "When is it polite to reject his offer to be my suitor?" I asked her. She smiled at me. "Well after dinner, of course! We cannot just have a guest come round from their long journey, and not give them food! It's simply rude and appalling!"
With that, my mother walked out of the dinning room and head to the kitchen. She called for one of the cooks to make dinner as soon as possible.
I walked into the barn to go and check up on my horses. The first one I saw was my partner in crime, Midnight. He was a dark horse. The second one was my dear, Caramel. She is a golden horse with white hair, I had her since I could walk, we literally grew up with each other.
I fed them both. Oh, how I missed them, even though it had been less than 24 hours, it felt like I haven't seen them for over a year.
I made my way back to the castle, I sprayed my self with perfume, so that I did not smell like the barn.
It was time for dinner, I made my way down to the dinning room. My mother and father were conversing with the Duke. He sat there attempting to make them laugh at his bad jokes, which he surprisingly thought were funny. The only funny thing about him,was how he thought he could come here and make me agree to marry him. I cringed at the thought of it.
The cooks came with the food and laid them in front of us. I thanked them and the stupid arrogant 'Duke' gave me a weird look. Oh, how I can not wait for him to finish his dinner, and reject this imbecile.
I began to eat and all I could think of was how I couldn't wait to ride my horse down to the villages and towns nearby the kingdom. I always loved to wonder around the world, and being treated as a normal human being instead of a princess, it was always fascinating.
"Okay, thank you for this meeting. The food was delightful. Oh, Lydia, what would you take me to be your husband? " the Duke got up from his chair. "No, thank you." I said bluntly.
He looked taken back and from my comment. "Very well, I should get going now. It was very nice to meet you all" he walked off embarrassed. I smiled rather satisfied that I destroyed this egotistical man's ego.
I got up from my seat and excused my self, as I briskly walked to the barn took my black hooded coat. I set my stable on Midnight and we then set off to gallop to the little towns.
A/n: so what do you think of this book.
