Crap.  There's so much blood everywhere.  I'm scared, Magrathea.  I am afraid.  There's so much in my head.

It's been hundreds of years since that day.  I have so long to go.  I can't lose to it here.

I ran back to the village, seeing the huge plume of flame rising from the area.  I saw the group of hooded figures run off into the forest.  I tried to give chase, but the scream of a child found my ears.  Damn myself for caring.

The whole village was in an uproar, with the survivors in the town square, where the concrete buildings did not catch fire.  but one building, the old clock tower of the square, was etched with a pattern.  A bird inside a pentagram.

I almost blacked out again.  I swear my eyes literally saw red everywhere.

And I saw you, small child, a calm patch in the whirlwind of activity around you.  The eye of the hurricane, where the placid water met the whirling storm.

And I swore to stay.  To stop moving.

I will protect you, child.  I will save you from the darkness.
