"Magrathea! Magrathea!"
"Oh. It's you. I was wondering who was stumbling though the forest."
"Somebody didn't get enough stew this morning. What's got you so pissed?"
I saw the path in the bushes behind him.
"Oh. You saw."
"You did this, didn't you?"
"What?! No!! I don't carry out mass homicide!"
"But you did. All those months ago."
"..."
"See? I know. I passed by their camp in ruins when I went hunting. I saw the blood."
"You have to listen, this wasn't me."
"Then you would have me believe Jäger buried them like this?"
He referred to the impromptu graveyard in the grove. Tombstones were hewn out of rubble and placed in a neat formation.
"I didn't kill them."
"Then it was that monster inside you! That shadow or whatever that you saw those months ago."
"Groooh..."
"Richard, steady."
"Magrathea..."
"Richard, leap."
"You can't catch me like that."
"Richard, leap! Richard, can't you hear me? Leap!!"
"Magrathea, you have to take my word for this. I didn't kill them. If you won't listen to me, listen to Richard."
"..."
"Look up."
"There's nothing...there..."
A thousand shards of colored glass hung from strands if thread tied to the branches of the trees. As the morning sun peeked across the horizon, the clearing seemed to catch fire and burst into color.
It was beautiful.
"I didn't kill them. I found them one night and buried them. Then I got the idea to put these up. From art class."
"What's that?"
"Oh no wait wrong era. Now you believe me?"
"Fine. Next time, tell me first."
"When I bury massacre victims?"
"No, when you're doing the massacring. Cause they must really deserve it."
"Fine. Massacring. That reminds me. Training's on today."
"Target practice?"
"Sure, just let me exhume some bodies first."
"You better not mean that."
"Fine, we'll use yours."
