Chapter Seventeen

We were in Tennessee. A small village that was known for few summer days and plenty of wet and windy days. Esme had restored an old building to make it our home for however long we would be here. I was determined that Edward and Rosalie get an education. Rosalie had already graduated earlier in the year but I was determined to get her in college at least.

"What would YOU like to do, Rose?" I asked her.

"I might like to try different courses... Live my own idea of a future at high school." Rosalie tapped a perfect fingernail against her chin.

"What courses did you do in high school?" Esme asked.

"Whatever my father wanted me to do. But I would like to study something else."

"What were you thinking?" I smiled at her.

"Beauty? I don't really know... Music?"

"You can do whatever you want." I promised her. She smiled in response.

"Definitely music." She drifted off to the piano which Edward usually played. We watched as she took a seat then started playing a beautiful melody.

When she was finished, Esme and I clapped. She smiled smugly. Edward rolled his eyes and left. Our hope of Edward and Rosalie getting together was just not going to happen. They fought like siblings and taking both of them aside, Edward had told me it was never going to happen and Rosalie was quite clear that she had zero feelings on the boy. However, as much as they did fight, Edward had someone to be with when I was at work.

I started work at another hospital once Edward and Rosalie had got settled in their high school. Esme kept house for us. She also went shopping for more clothes, giving old clothes to charity. She socialised more with humans, blending in so well. I felt so proud of her that I wanted to give her the wedding of her dreams.

"Hey Rose? Edward? A word please?" I beckoned to them. They both followed me into my study where I shut the door behind them.

"I will." Edward told me. I rolled my eyes.

"Shut it with the thoughts, mister!" Edward smirked. "I want to get married to Esme but I know she'll want a small wedding affair. Can you guys help me to get it sorted?" Rosalie beamed wide.

"I would love to!" She clapped her hands in delight.

"Great." I smiled at them both.

We planned the wedding for it to be during spring break. I sent invites from all over the world. Sending them to people that I had met on my travels. Nearly all of them accepted. The only person who didn't was a friend from England called Alistair but Alistair wasn't very sociable so I didn't blame him.

Rosalie planned the wedding to perfection. Esme had no idea until a week before when she had to go for dresses. She couldn't believe we had kept it quiet for so long but we had intended to make it special. The day before the wedding, I caught Edward on his own.

"Will you be my best man?" I asked him. Edward broke a smile.

"Of course I will, it will be an honour."
