Chapter Thirty-Four
When we got home, we immediately realised something was wrong. The trees were covered in blue tinsel and there was a string of pink fairy lights on either side of the front steps, leading up to the steps to the house. Rose petals were sprinkled on the steps.
"I think this is for you." Edward told Rosalie. Her eyes were wide. She got out of the car and slowly walked up the stairs.
"Should we go?" I asked Edward.
"Yes. Please. As far away as possible."
I pulled out of the drive, taking the hidden road to the highway.
"What's going on?" Esme asked.
"Em's proposing to Rose."
"Em?" I smiled.
"New nickname."
"Hundred and fifty dollars that the wedding will be in less than a week." I laughed.
"You're on. Emmett has a head on his shoulders."
"Would you two stop betting?" Esme rolled her eyes. I smiled and took her left hand in my right.
"Sorry love. Just a bit of fun. Hey, what was in that box of yours?"
"Don't know..." Esme took off the wrapping and lifted the lid. She took out the contents as she said them. "Shampoo, bath salts, mini bottle of alcohol, twenty-five dollar voucher for jewellery or clothing, raspberry scented soap, rose coloured lipstick, a small bottle of floral scented perfume and a candle."
"What is the candle scent?" Edward asked, his chin resting on her seat.
"Summer fruits."
"Nice." I approved. Esme put them back in the box.
"You know... We could go hunting while we waited for Emmett and Rosalie to finish up."
"It's a good idea actually."
"I know a good place that is being overrun by mountain lions." Edward said.
"Give me directions then." Edward directed me past Forks. We then parked the car in a secluded spot, hidden by the trees. Edward then continued to lead the way, near to the right. I understood what he meant when my sharp eyes caught sight of three mountain lions. We started to hunt, draining the lions of blood and quenching our thirst.
Once we were all full, I drove us back to Forks and to our home. When we got there, all the tinsel, rose petals and fairy lights had gone. The only light on in the house was in the family room. I parked the car in the garage, locked it then followed Esme and Edward into the house.
