Chapter Twenty-One

"We're home!" I put the suitcases down by the door. A soft melody from the piano was cut off and Edward appeared at the door frame.

"Welcome back." He smiled and hugged us both.

"Where's Rosalie?" Esme asked, anxiously.

"She's gone on a hunting trip." Esme's jaw dropped in horror.

"You let her go by herself?!"

"She's stronger than you think now. She is honestly done so well. She's not touched a drop of human blood since her transformation."

"What about... Royce?"

"She killed all of the men that hurt her but she was controlled enough that she never drained a drop of any of their blood." Edward explained.

"We have to trust her." I told Esme, squeezing her hand. She sighed then nodded and started to examine Edward.

"When was the last time you hunted?" Edward rolled his butterscotch eyes.

"Two days ago. For crying out loud, Mom!" He grabbed her hands.

"He's fine, love," I kissed Esme's hair gently. "Leave him be." I took the suitcases and went to unpack.

"I'll help!" Edward ran after me and helped me unpack. I then called the hospital to inform them that I would be in for my shift tomorrow. After that, I went downstairs to find Esme by the window.

"Are you okay?" I asked her. She turned to look at me.

"I'm just glad we're home." I smiled at her.

"Me too." I pulled her close, holding her tight.
