Chapter Forty-One

We liked being with the Denali coven. They were a family much like ours. They too stuck to our alternative way of life and had stayed hidden in human society for many years, interacting but never suspected.

Eleazar and I shared his study. Edward was happy and content playing the piano, swapping compositions with Carmen and reading Eleazar's books on every subject available. Rosalie had her girl time with Irina and Kate. When Tanya was trying to get Edward's attention, Emmett was messing with him. They gambled endlessly which was entertaining to watch. Emmett confessed to having being a womanizer and a gambler in his former life. Now he was a vampire, his eyes were only for Rosalie but his gambling habits were still going strong. They gambled over the most idiotic things such as the weather. The biggest bet was secret between myself and Emmett as we had a thousand on how long Edward could stand until he told Tanya to back off. I thought Edward was enough of a gentleman to last for at least a month if not longer. Emmett thought Edward wouldn't be able to last two weeks. It turned out Emmett was right when Edward finally asked Tanya if they could go for a walk and he told her his lack of interest.

Emmett held out his hand to me as Edward walked through the door. His expression said it all. I slammed the thousand dollar bill into his hand and Emmett smirked in response.

"You bet on this?!" Edward groaned. I groaned too when Esme appeared at the family room door at just that moment. Her face was livid.

"Thanks." I told Edward, sarcastically.

"Call it revenge, dear Father." Esme wagged her finger in my face.

"No sex for a fortnight." Emmett and Edward started howling. There was laughter throughout the house as the others heard our discussion too. I shrugged.

"I can last without sex."

"No you can't."

"No you're right, I can't. Esme! Take it back!"

"You promised me!"

"But... But..." I pulled my puppy dog face, lips pulling down slightly and looking at her from under my lashes. "Please Esme... Take it back..."

"Nope." She walked away and I ran after her, flashing a rude gesture to my two sons who were in hysterics.
