The Excitement Filled His Lungs

The theater was overwhelmingly  huge, considering that this was only the bands' second show. But what else could you expect in New York? Tyler was more exited than I had ever seen him in a very long time.

"Look. At. It." He gaped as he pressed his face to the window of the car. You could tell that the theater was old by the state of the faded red bricks, but the lights that shone in the entrance of the building made it look timeless.

"Holy shit..." Josh gasped in awe. This time,  Tyler didn't even turn around to get mad at Joshes swearing. I couldn't speak. I knew that this could mean so much for Tyler and Josh.

"Alright guys, we gotta go do sound check." Mark opened the door to the limo.

"Yeah, sound check." Josh nodded in a daze. I could tell that he was nervous.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked my friend.

"How many people will be here?" He ignored my question and instead asked Mark.

"Um, about two hundred and fifty." Mark responded, looking through his phone.

"Jesus Christ." Josh sat back down in his seat. Tyler and I sat down next to him.

"Hey, it's going to be fine." Tyler tried to reassure him.

"I can guarantee that everyone will love you." I added.

"But what if I screw up?" He asked us, his face becoming paler.

"You won't screw up, we've been practising for two months. You got this Josh." Tyler told him.

"Yeah."  Josh muttered. Then he took a deep breath. "I've got this." He shook his arms off.

"There we go buddy!" Tyler slapped his friend on the back. I grinned in relief.

"Let's go inside." I told the two boys.

The inside of the theater was more overwhelming then it's exterior. Rows of seats had been taken away to reveal a black floor, enough to fit maybe five hundred bodies. The stage was long and wooden, and a set of drums and a piano were already waiting. Walking into the empty theater, it smelled of dust and old velvet. The dim lit lights would be off in a matter of hours. I felt ecstatic. This was it. The biggest night in Twenty One Pilots' history had finally come. Tyler hurried passed me and jumped onto the  stage.

"Dude! Look at this piano!" He called to me front the stage. I ran over and climbed up next to him.

"What?" I looked at it. It looked like an ordinary piano to me.

"It's so new!" He looked at me, his brown eyes wide in excitement. It was newer than the one he usually practiced with.

"OH MY GOSH LOOK AT THE DRUMS!" Josh cried out. Again, the drums were new. I guess that made a huge impact on the sound of an instrument, but what did I know about music? Nevertheless, I was happy for them.

"Alright guys, listen up!" A voice called. We turned around and saw a tall man in a suit.

"My name is Darrel Foster, if you don't already know." He started. I remembered the name. Darrel was the one who got Tyler and Josh the show here. I imagined him more as an older man, but he looked barely thirty. His neat brown hair was combed at the middle, and his suit was crisp and clean.

"We are going to run some checks on the lights, then we'll get into sound check, okay?" Darrel told us.

"Sure thing, is there anywhere we should wait?" Tyler asked him.

"Just in the back." Darrel answered. The three of us went to find what this 'back' had in store. It wasn't much, just a couple of couches and a big mirror with a few shelves. They did have a Nintendo though, so that kept us occupied.

"No way..." Tyler approached the TV.

"Mario Kart!" He held up a game case.

"Dude!" Josh sat up straighter when he heard the magic words. Tyler tossed him a controller.

"Do you want to play too?" Tyler asked me.

"Um..." I thought for a moment. I had never held a video game controller in my life, so I didn't want to embarrass myself.

"C'mon, you'll love it." Tyler reassured me.

"Fine." I gave in to the urge to see what the hell it feels like to play a video game.

"Sick!" Tyler sat down next to me on the couch facing the TV. I felt the game controller begin to vibrate, and the screen appeared in front of me.

"I call Mario!" Josh raised his controller.

"Dang it." Tyler frowned. "I'll take Luigi."

I had no idea what other characters there were, so I chose a little blue mushroom man. The game began. It took me a few minutes to find which button made my cart move forward, and another five to find how to steer, but eventually I was in the lead.

"How the heck are you doing that?" Tyler exclaimed as he tried to move his head in the same direction of his car.

"Natural talent." I bragged as I maneuvered both of my thumbs on the controller, one of them sticking out of my cast.  Josh was scowling.

"How am I last?" He frowned.

"Because you're not fast." Tyler said.

"Damn Tyler, what a burn." I rolled my eyes at him. He chuckled.

"I'm coming up behind you." He boasted. I saw his green cart following me. I dropped that yellow thing that got me to first place.

"NO!" Tyler shouted as his car skidded into the barrier. Josh passed him in his red cart.

"HAH! Finally!" He cheered himself on.

"Sound check time." Mark peered his head into our room.

"Now?" Tyler whined.

"Yes, now." Mark rolled his eyes at the three of us. I put the game on pause.

"Come on." I put my controller down. Tyler and Josh sighed as the got up and walked towards the stage. I sat down on a folding chair that was sitting back stage. Only two hours now.
