If I could describe Tyler's family in one word, I would use the word charismatic. Each member of the family was all passionate about different things, and showed it. They were all so kind to me. I never got this kind of attention at home. Don't get me wrong, my family isn't terrible, but I never sat down with them at a table to eat, or talked about our day.
"So Emily, were do you work?" Tyler's dad asked me.
"Oh, I work at the Columbus Office Depot about half an hour away from here." I replied.
"You know, Madison has been looking for a job. Do you know if they're hiring?"
"DaaAaad!" Maddie whined.
"I don't want to work there!""It was just a suggestion." Tyler's dad raised his hands in surrender.
"Emily, are you vegetarian? Because we're having burgers tonight." Zach asked me from the kitchen.
"No, burgers sound good." I told him.
I was surprisingly enjoying my time with the Josephs'. As we ate, we talked about how Jay wanted to be an author, how Zach wanted to accept the scholarship that had been offered to him for his basketball, the same one that Tyler turned down. We talked about how big of a dork Josh was, who had decided to stay around for dinner. We talked about Tyler's 'rebellious passion for music', as Tyler's mom called it. After what seemed like hours, Tyler left the table. A few minutes later, he came back with, you guessed it, his keytar."I promised you a keytar concert, you're gonna get a keytar concert." He told me.
"Tyler, no!" Maddie glared at him.
"Tyler yes." He replied with a mischievous smile, then hopped up onto a coffee table in the living room. Maddie and Jay groaned. Josh ran up to join them. Tyler began to play.
"Is this the real life...." Tyler started.
"Or is this just fantasy..." Josh finished.
"Tyler please." Maddie begged.
"Caught in a landslide, no escape from realityyyyyy..." As Josh continued to sing, Tyler paused his keytaring and grabbed my arm.
"Nononononono." I almost yelled at him as he dragged me to the table. When me, Tyler and Josh were all on the table, they began to sing again.
"Open your eyes, look to the skies and seeeee..."
"I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy..." Zach sang from the kitchen. Eventually, all four of us were once again screaming along to Queen.
"MAMAAAA OOOOOH OOOOOH OOOOOH... CARRY OOON AS IF NOTHING REALLY MATTERS."
Tyler then keytared the guitar solo."I SEE A LITTLE SILHOUETTO OF A MAN , SACREMOUSH, SACREMOUSH WILL YOU DO THE VANDEGO."
Tyler then tried to use his deepest voice, which was not that deep."Oh mamma mia mamma mia will you let me go?"
"ICH VIL BACH NO, WE WILL NOT LET YOU GO!" Josh, Zach and I sang. A few lines later, Josh was attempting to head-bang.
"SO YOU THINK YOU CAN STOP ME AND SPIT IN MY EEEEYE? SO YOU THINK YOU CAN LOVE ME AND LEAVE ME TO DIEEEEE?"
And so our hollering continued, until I saw the time."Oh shoot I have to go home!"
My dad would have been expecting me. I heard a chorus of 'aww'."Sorry guys, but thank you for having me over." I smiled. Tyler's mom came up to me with a pile of folded clothes.
"Here you go dear, I washed your clothes." She smiled to me as she handed me my newly washed clothes.
"Thank you so much." I smiled back at her.
"And you can keep the dress. It wasn't working for me anyways." Maddie told me from the dining room table.
"Really? Thank you!" I replied. She just nodded.
"No problemo, amigo."
"I better get going too, my mom probably wants me to help with fixing our basement." Josh said.
"Its been nice having both of you." Tyler's dad commented.
"I could walk you home, if you want." Tyler asked me.
"Sure, but we have to be quick."
After saying goodbye to Tyler's family, and walking Josh home, me and Tyler walked alone."Your family is pretty cool." I told him.
Yeah, they're pretty great." He replied, smiling.
We didn't talk for a while after that.
When we finally reached my house. Tyler turned to me."So?" He said.
"So?" I replied.
"Were my keytar skills as great as you thought?" He grinned at me.
"It was beyond description." I told him.
"Here," I stuck my hands inside my bag and pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. I wrote down my cellphone number.
"That's my number, in case you have any more requests to do a keytar duet." I handed the slip of paper to him. He stared at it for a while, then looked up at me.
"Thanks." He smiled. Then, from out of the blue, right in the middle of the street, he kissed me. It was short, and when it stopped, he was smiling wider then I've ever seen him smile. He was grinning like an idiot, and I think I was too.
'Wow Emily, first kiss already?'
"I'll, see you." He said, then he turned around and began to walk away. I stood in the street for a while, then I walked inside.
