I was sneaking stealthily along the thin wall of the base camp, trying to actually spook Teep. It was a game I had practically invented for us to play. Once I reached the corner, the one by the dinosaur’s tower, I sat down with my legs dangling inwards towards the camp and waited to see his noticeable, green scales.

My friend then emerged from his adorable tower (he hated when I called it that) he had made for himself, looking sort of unhappy. I began to worry, so I blew my cover.

“Tee? What’s wrong?” I asked, cocking my head to the left. The dinosaur turned to me as he got to the bottom of the vines. He then ran over to me, jumping up onto the wall beside me. “Is everything alright?”

Tee then began pointing at me and making heart shapes with his tiny T-Rex arms.

  “My heart?”

He shook his head frantically and started pointing to his eyes and making it look like he wanted to emphasize them.

“Your eyes… hurt?” I began inquiring. “My eyes are… no…”

Teep then wrote a letter in the sand; an “R.”

“Rythian? He’s fine, he went out to get some buckets of water—he’ll be back soon.” I patted the dinosaur’s head after I finished talking.

Then my dinosaur started frantically pointing at the sky, then to where the sun was now.

“Tee, I know he left yesterday, but he left later in the day. Wait… you’re right… We should probably look for him. We can go to the waterhole if you want.” I shrugged playfully and turned to leap clear off the sandstone wall.

Teep ran back to his tower and came back out with his gun. He then sprinted to the entrance. I would have thought he would follow me instead of taking the long way. Sometimes, I guess, no one knows what goes on inside a dino’s mind.

I began to follow far behind Teep, but he stopped time and time again to let me catch up. When we finally reached the forest, Tee didn’t stop anymore for his lagging friend: it wasn’t too far, after all.

“Did you find anything, Tee?” I asked a few moments after he disappeared in the foliage. Tee emerged from the bushes, running to me in panic. I jumped when I saw him. My friend grabbed me by my real arm and pulled me to the waterhole where Rythian and I always went when we needed water. There was only one problem: Rythian was nowhere to be seen.

The dinosaur let go of my arm and started running frantically around.

“Rythian! Are you here?” I called, wondering if he may have just wandered into the trees. No one answered. I looked down at the pond, then around. Then, however, I froze. As I peered down, I saw one of our buckets, tipped on its side, with the ground beside its mouth moist. I picked it up and held it in my robotic hand, brushing off the dirt with the other hand. I stared beyond the bucket in my hand, its silver plating turning blurry as I let my vision focus elsewhere, and noticed a sword stuck tip down in the jungle earth.
