Rythian

I continued to hold Zoey in my arms as she went limp. My life seemed to flash before my eyes as I listened to her sharp, agonizing scream.

“Zoey!” I cried as she fell into my arms.

“Rythian?” She asked, attempting to focus her eyes on me.

“Yeah, it’s me. Zoey… uh… you need to listen to me.” I commanded, beginning to panic.

She struggled to keep her eyes open, but she weakly nodded, likewise.

A tear nearly escaped my eye, but I held it in as to show confidence. “I need to… take it out. Then I can use my Life Stone on the wound. It’s gonna hurt… a lot. I’m sorry, in advance.”

I suppose Zoey trusted me to do what I needed to, because she laid back in my arms and fell asleep.

My hands let go of my technomage as I laid her down on the ground. I reached for the arrow that was lodged in her back, and I grasped it firmly.

Quickly, I pulled my hand back into my body, letting go of the scorching, obsidian shaft.

“Magically infused? But how?” I murmured to myself.

I quickly removed my cape as my mind shot me a good idea. The tattered cape was clenched in my fists. I folded the purple cloth into a messy square and held it back to the arrow.

With the cape wrapped around the shaft and fletchings, I could now clutch the arrow comfortably, and I did.

I breathed out hard and closed my eyes tightly. I kept them closed as I pulled the weapon from my apprentice’s abdomen. I knew it would pain me to watch, so I only felt my cape around the arrow and the cloth that made up Zoey’s blouse.

All of a sudden, I felt a snag on the arrow. I involuntarily opened my eyes and nearly puked. The shaft of the arrow was caked in a reddish liquid that had been inside of Zoey only moments ago. I tugged once more on the arrow, and realized it was only caught on her skin; it was almost out.

My mind and body couldn’t decide whether to look or not, so I just did. I yanked on the shaft, and the arrow came out, followed by a trickling of blood from the wound.

I untied my Alchemy Bag from the belt on my hip. My hand quickly ran through the bag, then grasped the Life Stone. When I pulled it out, I set it on the ground beside me so I could tie the bag back to my belt. Once I had, I heard a noise coming from the trees; like a voice.

I raised an eyebrow and turned to Teep.

“Will you go check that out?” I asked him. Sure enough, he did.

My heart trusted Tee to do what I told him to. I felt safe now, knowing he was there.

Once I was relaxed, at least as much as I would be, I felt something hit my left leg, like a rock. I looked to see a small bomb-like object. Before I could react, or even identify it, it went off.

  BOOM

Duncan

Sjin watched the mage closely as I leaned against a birch tree. He, perched up top in the same tree in which I leaned, pulled a small bomb from his bag. I didn’t think much of it, until I realized what it really was.

“Whoa! Are you sure about that?” I interrupted.

  “Of course!” Sjin responded confidently.

“That will kill them! All of them!”

  “And?”

  “That’s not our goal!”
