My mom opens the door after two rings of the doorbell and I enter inside. I remove my footwear at the entrance when I find that everyone is at home today. They are here definitely to screw me up.
"Why you weren't picking up our calls earlier before your phone switched off?" interrogates my dad as I stand before him. Aarav and mom take a seat beside him on the sofa in the living room.
"M-My phone was on silent mode" I reply and start to sweat. I am really scared of my dad at times when he is in his angry mood.
"Oh. But is your friend okay now?" asks Aarav.
What is happening here? No one is suspicious for me. Strange.
"Yes she is fine" I answer.
"You should have informed us about your friend who got admitted in the hospital lately. Why do you try to manage everything of your own every time?" asks dad frustratedly.
Hey wait. When did my friend get admitted in the hospital? Who told him this? My expressions change from nervousness to confusion. I think I should answer to whatever he is asking even if I am puzzled.
I open my mouth to answer him when my mom interrupts in between.
"Can you please stop asking questions from Aditi? She has came to home and is getting late for her college" advices my mom and I nod in agreement with her.
"Okay but we will surely talk about this later" states dad getting up from the sofa and then moves towards his room.
Thank god! Another miracle. Why is god helping me out so much today? Anyway I should thank him.
"By the way, I have found another job" informs Aarav.
"Another job? Why?" I ask thanking God that my topic is closed.
"Because only a waiter's salary in not enough to meet with our daily household expenses" he states.
I and my mom nod.
"So what is your another job and when will you start that?" interrogates mom.
"I will work as a mechanic in a garage at night" he replies.
"Oh!" exclaims my mom.
"So you are going to work all the day? Morning in the hotel and night in the garage?" I question by raising my both eyebrows in surprise.
"Nope. I will be working as a mechanic at alternate days in the week" he answers.
"Oh okay" I and my mom reply in unison.
He then leaves for the hotel and I enter inside my room to take a quick warm shower in the bathroom.
As I was selecting my clothes for today, my mom enters inside my room. She closes the door behind her.
She sits on my bed and asks "Tell me honestly where were you last night Aditi?".
Oh no. I am definitely going to be grounded if I don't tell her the actual reason.
I turn around. "I had gone to attend New Year party with my friends" I reply slowly and remove my eyes off her.
"What! Why? Where? With whom?" she asks with her not ending 'Wh' questions.
"With my college friends on a boat" I reply.
"And why you didn't return at night? Your party would have got over by then right?" asks mom. She is looking really angry and she should be. I have disappointed her and broken her trust.
"N-No mom. It got over in the early morning today" I reply not wanting to tell her what is the actual reason. Otherwise she will get worried.
"Time?" she asks.
