"Erin, will you marry me?" Jay asked. He got down on one knee and grabbed her left hand. "I know I don't have a ring right now, and I know it isn't the perfect timing. I also know that I love you, though, and that there is never the right time to do something. I do want to spend my life with you, and I do want to be your one and only as you are to me and no matter what, I know that... we, whatever it is, can do it. Even marriage." Jay said.
"By do it, do you mean have sex with it because I don't think you can." She said, drunkenly.
"Erin, how much have you had to drink?" He asked, standing up and sitting her down. "Where's Shay?"
"I only had one-ty." She said, meaning ten. "And he's upstairs in his room with the nanny."
"What nanny?" Jay asked.
"On second thought, I was wondering why she looked like a vampire." She stumbled to her feet, and even drunk, still knew, as a mother, her child needed her in that instance. She ran up the stairs but too many beers can take effect and she passed out, falling down a flight of stairs. Jay picked her up and laid her on the couch before running up the stairs and checking of Shay.
A lady stood and watched Shay as he slept soundly. "Brett? Are you okay?" She cried as he walked closer. Her mascara ran down her cheeks, she did look like a vampire... with black blood.
"No, but I offered to babysit Shay, so, I am."
"Okay, thanks." He ran back down the stairs and slid down next to Erin. "Erin. Baby. Wake up." He shook her. "Shay is okay. I know you're going to be too, but you have to wake up baby, wake up." Slowly, her eyes peeled open.
"No," she muttered.
"No?"
"To your proposal, no." She murmured.
"You're too drunk to answer, so I won't take that answer."
"I still know the difference between right and wrong though, too, so no. Now, let me sleep." She closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep. The next day rolled around and she woke up.
Jay had made pancakes for Erin. Erin got up and went into the kitchen and sat down waiting for pancakes to appear on her plate. "Erin, you know I love you, right? You and Shay?"
"Of course you do, of course I know." She whispered.
"Do you love me?"
"You know I do, you don't have to yell." She whispered.
"Sorry," he quieted down, "If you love me, and you know I love you, why no?"
"No, because it's not right, not for us anyways, not now." She explained.
"But... it doesn't make sense. We love each other, we have a kid, we love him, he's alive... we should get married." He exclaimed.
"I don't believe in marriage, not anymore, and I don't understand the point of it... so there, can we stop this?" She confessed.
"Yeah. But, I do love you." He stepped in front of her and kissed her on the lips, "one day, I will convince you that this is right and one day, you will be my wife." He kissed her once again.
"Keep dreaming..." She giggled. She looked over at the high chair where Shay sat. Her face lit up when she saw Shay crack a smile. Shay's laugh made Jay and Erin so happy and there was nothing better than that. That was true love, and Jay knew that both Erin and him, and him, Erin and Shay had that kind of love.
"One day, Erin. Like I told you once before, one day we will be together, as husband and wife. One day Erin Lindsay." He kissed her with his serious face, which he couldn't hold for a while.
