"NATALIA!!!!!" Ryan yelled from across the school ground running full speed towards me with his arms wide open. He soon engulfed me in a huge hug, suffocating me.
Luckily I can survive months without oxygen.
Speaking, however, was another story.
"Ryan... Hey... Ryan.... RYAN!" I breathed, trying to pry him off of me.
Ryan quickly pulled away, "Sorry! I'm just really happy you guys made it back safely. After Cameron and... Matthew. His mom called me saying he would be back next week. He's getting some help with some guru... I don't know. Don't ask. I talked to him on the phone though. He sounds good. This whole experiece has changed him though. For sure."
"I figured. Hey wheres Rick?" Ashton asked, coming up behind me.
"Ugh, he's taking all this news really bad. He's turned well... You'll see. How was Christmas?" Ryan said, quickly changing the subject. I could tell he was uncomfortable about the whole Rick situation.
Christmas was actually good. Ashton, Rhea and I got a cat.
Yes, a cat.
Ashton's parents rescued a cat named Glitter from a local shelter. She has just about every color imaginable on a cat, splattered on her silky fur.
I'd always wanted a pet, secretly of course, so this was truly a dream come true. Rhea was putting her in our room, ah the beauty of rock paper scissors.
Ryan, Ashton and I walked up to our room, our feet stomping lightly against the carpeted floor. I looked around, and noticed that a lot of students seemed more apprehensive and fearful, turning their heads at the slightest movement in the quiet hallway. The usually lively rooms were now less giddy, and more serious. Students normal calm stature changed into one of fierceness, determination, and strength.
As I looked around, I thought about battle strategy. Right now, we planned to just get as many gifted and not gifted people together to fight, and hope to use strength in numbers. But looking at my fellow students, I learned something.
It doesn't matter how many you have, it only matters how skilled the people you do have are. The freshmen, they stayed in large groups, traveling together. However, if two sophomores told them to do something, BOOM it's done.
That's how we were going to beat the evil. I smiled to myself as I stood in front of our dorm door, waiting for Ashton to get out her key.
As I stood there, suddenly my vision blurred, and the scene around me started to vanish, as I became enclosed in another vision.
I looked around and saw I was in a place with vast trees and grass. I didn't recognize it, but judging by the strength of the wind, I could tell we were up high.
My feet started to move on their own, and I knew they would take me to what I was meant to see. I soon saw a clearing ahead, and my feet sped up. My hair started to blow in the wind, but I didn't care. As I came out of the trees, I saw Ryan, Ashton, Rhea, Julie and I standing on a cliff, all of us besides Julie in tears.
"Are you sure it's going to be ok Julie?" Ashton whispered, her usually cheerful voice cracking.
Julie nodded, her face emotionless, "Yes. It must be done."
Ryan shook his head, "I can do it. You have to stay Julie."
I looked over at myself, who's face had gone pale. I could see that I was having an argument with myself. Eventually, one side one, and my stance, became more determined, and stern.
"No Ryan, please you can't. We'll find someone else, neither of you should. It's not worth it. We'll find some other way," I could tell I was on the verge of tears, because as I looked into my own face, I could tell that my eyes were glazing over with unshead tears. My body started to shake, as I held back tears. It was truly painful to see myself like this.
