My body shook and my teeth gritted together as I stared at him. My eyes glowed, but I knew I couldn't use my risen powers on the equinox. Why couldn't he have picked any other day so I could rip that smug little smile right off his face?
"I assume you figured out what I did by now? Hmmmm Natalia?" Jacob mused, smirking at me.
"Yes, and I do not appreciate you trying to do it again to someone else," I sneered, waving my hand towards Gabriella. My black leather boots sunk firmly in the hot sand, and my dark hair whipped around my face messily. I probably looked like a monster; red, puffy, glowing eyes; unkempt, frizzy ebony hair; and out of shape, pale, worn body. Jacob, however, looked like he walked straight out of a photo shoot wearing his grey dress shirt and dark wash jeans, his hair sleek and clean. His emotions were under control, unlike his ego.
Jacob let out a smug, but loud cackle, the deafening sound echoing through the beach. "You've brought this on yourself, honey bun. You could've surrendered, and now look at all the lives you've destroyed."
I reluctantly followed Jacob's gesture with my eyes, and the glowing stopped. The once bright and lively sand was stained a bitter red. Bodies were scattered everywhere, their eyes barren and gone; lost souls killed in a hopeless battle.
A few of our solders were killed, but no more than ten. Their bright gold armor stood out, glistening in the sun despite the horrid setting. The idea of all those people wearing our crest proudly, made any doubting thoughts vanish.
I turned my head back to Jacob, glaring at him through my thick, black lashes. "I do not doubt our decision one bit. I know we are doing what is right by not joining you." My army cheered from behind me, but Ashton and Rhea soon silenced them and came to my sides. "We are ready to face you, Jacob. Think of it as a game, winner takes it all. And I do mean, it all."
Rhea tugged at my shirt, "No, Natalia what are you thinking?"
His lips pressed together in a straight line as he concentrated. He was scared. "Fine, a game. But it wont begin yet," he mused, his cocky grin returning. "Attack!" he yelled, sending his army back into full attack mode.
"Don't even..." I started, before he vanished into a puff of smoke. I let out a growl of disapproval, and turned only to barely miss a bolt of lightning sent to my head. With the swing of my hand, the attacker was cut in half by a stealthy air attack (pretty sweet right?) and the halfs of her bloody body fell limp to the ground.
Everyone else fought, Ashton, Rhea and I included. Fawn and Forte were working on a powerful group of four, burning them more and more with every attack and sending the smell of burning flesh into the air. Jane had pulled an injured Ray into a safe patch, and took some gauze out of her satchel for her injured leg. Tears stung in her eyes as she wrapped it around Ray's head where she got hit with an icicle. Ray only smiled, and rushed back out to the fight. A proud smiled tugged at my lips as I watched her.
Ashton was attacking Joel, clearly having the upper hand on the fight. Several of Jacob's troops were trying to butt in, but Augustus and Xavier took them out quickly, staying by Ashton at all times. Jonah and Rhea were taking out large amounts of troops with his hypnotizing and her attacks, but were also caught up in an intense battle between a powerful group of lightning specialists and an ice specialist with Regina. For someone who didn't like people, she was sure putting an effort in to fight.
Griffin and Alex were fighting another lightning specialist, who was backed up by two solders trained in swordsmanship. Just as I thought Alex was close to defeated, and Griffin would be next, Victoria swooped in and saved Alex from his (almost) deathbed, carrying him quickly out of the line of fire while Jonathan came and took Alex's place in the fight. Jullian was alone, helping anyone and everyone out throughout the fight. Riley hadn't once left Rhea's side, looking like the protective older brother he was. Every time she seemed like she was in a pickle, there he was saving her again. Sweetest thing ever I say.
