*Emma's POV*
Mia and I were on our way to pick up Killian from the Naval base where we'd dropped him off two months ago. She had insisted on wearing her Navy girl Halloween costume and I had to admit, she was adorable. Not to mention that arguing with a three year old is like fighting a brick wall. She was bouncing in her booster seat, playing with her necklace anxiously. She'd found my promise ring on it's chain in my jewelry box while we were playing dress up last month and after I'd explained what it was, she rarely took it off.
"You excited to see daddy, baby girl?" I asked her as I got her out of the truck and sat her on my hip. "Remember, you can't tell him the big secret yet, okay?"
"I won't," she promised, crossing her heart then looking around the base. "Where's daddy? Why isn't he here yet? He s'posed to be here today."
"Don't worry, princess," I smiled, trying not to laugh as I carried her to where the other families were waiting. "You see that big ship out there? That's where daddy is. We just have to wait until it gets here."
"You promise?" she asked quietly with worried eyes. I nodded and she laid down on my shoulder, watching the ship come closer as I kissed her forehead. "I wanna see daddy. He was all gone too long."
"I know, Mia, I know," I sighed, rubbing her back. "I wanna see daddy, too. He'll be here soon."
Once the ship docked I set her down, fixing her outfit. The group slowly dispersed as loved ones were reunited and my heart started to ache. I was still kneeling in front of her when I heard her gasp and I knew he'd come off the ship.
"Daddy!" she screamed and ran. I stood and turned around, seeing her blonde curls bouncing as she ran straight into Killian's arms. He scooped her right up, making her giggle as he put his hat on her. "I misses you! You all gone too long!"
"I know, I missed you, too my baby girl," he smiled, kissing her cheek. "Now, what have you done with your mommy? I owe her kisses, too."
"Damn right you do," I teased him as I walked over. He smirked, immediately pulling me against him with his free arm and kissing me deeply as Mia giggled at us. We pulled away and I couldn't help but smile, biting my lip as I looked up at him with his forehead resting on mine. "I missed you too, Captain."
"Mommy and daddy silly," Mia giggled and we both looked over at her, Killian never letting me go. "Can we go home and play now?"
"I suppose," he smiled and set her down. "Why don't you go see if you can get in your carseat all by yourself like a big girl."
"Yay!" she yelled making us laugh as she ran in a wavy course towards the truck, her arms spread as she pretended to be a plane. People stared at her but we didn't care, she was having fun and that's all that mattered.
"She's such a goofball," I laughed, shaking my head at her as we walked with our arms around each other to the parking lot. "She must have gotten that from you."
"I hope so," he grinned, squeezing me closer until we got to the truck where Mia was bouncing in her seat once again. "Well look at you, big girl! You went and grew up while I was gone!"
"Hands," She said once we were both in, making us look at her with confusion. She let out an exasperated sigh, pulling on our wrists and smashing our hands together. He threaded our fingers together to hold my hand tightly on her lap and she sat back, a satisfied smile on her face. "See? Mommy and daddy's hands go together. That how it s'posed to be."
"Aye, I agree," Killian smirked and I laughed a little, making her smile grow. "Now let's go home and see if your surprise is there yet."
"Surprise?" she asked, her eyes widening as she got excited all over again and bouncing even more. "Drive, mommy! Please please please drive!"
I laughed but did as she asked, pulling out of the parking lot and onto the highway. Mia kept asking him questions and he gladly answered, a grin plastered to his face as he did and ran his thumb along the back of my hand. We pulled up to the house just as Liam came out looking tired out, confusing even me as I got Mia out of her seat and Killian picked her up.
"Amelia Rose, were you good while daddy was away?" he asked her seriously and she nodded, her eyes wide as she looked at him. "Are you sure? If I ask mommy is she going to agree?"
"I promise," she nodded again, crossing her heart. He glanced at me and I nodded, giving him a small smile. "I sit with mommy while she writes and I color pitchers. I a good girl, daddy."
"Okay, close your eyes and don't peek," he told her and she squeezed her eyes shut, covering them with both hands. He smiled, grabbing my waist and taking us both to the backyard where a brand new swing set sat. I looked at him in surprise, the grin on his face making me almost giggle. "Alright my big girl, open your eyes."
She did and immediately gasped, running to it as soon as he set her down. She called her thanks from the top, making us laugh as she made Liam play with her and the puppy we got a few months ago. We sat together on the porch swing and he pulled my legs over one of his, holding me close as I cuddled into him. He rubbed my side absent mindedly, leaning his cheek on the top of my head as I lay on his chest. I looked up at him, unable to keep the smile off my face as he met my eyes with his forehead on mine.
"So, guess what," I smiled, deciding now was as good a time as any to clue him in. "Mia isn't the only one who gets a surprise today."
"Oh, she's not?" he asked, cocking his eyebrow. "And what other surprise is there, if you don't mind sharing?"
"Well," I pulled the sonogram picture from my purse, making sure he couldn't see it. "A few weeks after you left, I started getting sick like, every day. I thought I just had the flu or something but when I went to the doctor..."
I trailed off, watching his face as I let him see the picture. His eyes widened, his hand shaking as he touched the small spot in the picture.
"Really?" he whispered, looking up at me with tears glistening in his eyes. "We'd all but given up for the time being after trying for two years."
"I told Mia and she's all excited, insisting I do everything in my power to make sure she gets a little sister," I laughed a bit, his lips twitching to a small smile as I got serious again. "I wanted to tell you when I found out, and I was dying to every time we talked... but I wanted to tell you in person and-"
I was cut off by his lips as they crashed to mine, making me moan softly in surprise. I slid my arms up around his neck, holding him to me as he pressed me into him and tangled one of his hands in my hair. I heard the gate open and close, soon followed by a familiar exasperated sigh that no doubt included an eye roll.
"Ten years," Ruby's voice said in disbelief. "It's been ten years and I'm still walking in on this. You two know there's a little kid present, right?"
"I big girl," Mia protested, sounding like she was in Liam's arms. "Daddy said so. And I gunna be a big sissy, I no little no more. And mommy and daddy happy, they s'posed to do that."
"Wait, what?" Ruby asked quietly and someone plucked the sonogram from my hand. "Oh my god. Holy fucking shit."
"Mommy," Mia whined, now pulling on my dress until I pulled away from Killian to look at her. "Aunt Ruby be naughty. I sit with you?"
"Of course," I smiled softly, still breathless as I pulled her up into my lap. "Don't worry, baby girl, Aunt Ruby is always naughty. She's just surprised like daddy about the new baby."
"But baby a good thing," she insisted, curling into the place where Killian and I met and cuddling into my stomach. "Daddy happy, right?"
"Daddy's very happy, princess," Killian answered a little tearfully, rubbing her back as I held her. "Daddy has every bit of happiness in the world right now. I think I may actually burst."
Okay, so everyone kind of panicked when I said I was going to end this, so I'm going to try my best to drag it out. Just bear with me, please. Thank you!
