Christmas
“Aria. Aria, get up.” Fred said.
I opened my eyes tiredly and looked at Fred. He was lying next to me in his bed and was smiling goofily. My parents and I were at the Burrow for Christmas like we always were and I was supposed to be staying in Ginny’s room with her but I must’ve fallen asleep while I was talking with Fred about Hogwarts. Things were getting worse there. I had come home with cuts and bruises all over my back from the torture the Carrow twins inflicted on me for not wanting to torture younger years. Neville and I were the only ones in our year to refuse so we got the worse punishment. Well, us and Seamus Finnigan. My parents and the twins had a fit about this and Mum wanted me to stay home after Holiday Break but I wanted to go back. I didn’t want to leave Neville and everyone else on their own during this time. Plus I wanted to be there for whenever the battle broke out and I knew my mum would have me stay home; no matter if I was of age when it started or not.
“What?” I asked Fred tiredly and looked over at the clock. It was four in the morning and the last time I remembered seeing was two a.m.
“Come here.” He grabbed my hand and got off the bed.
I groaned and just laid there. “Can’t this wait for later? I’m tired.”
“No. I don’t know how much longer it’ll be outside.” He pulled me up.
“How long what will be outside?” I asked as he pulled me out of the room and down the stairs.
“Just wait and see.” He smiled back at me and we went through the Christmas decorated sitting room and the kitchen and out the backdoor.
“Fred, it’s freezing out here and I have no shoes on.” I complained and he stopped.
He took off his shoes and the sweater he was wearing and handed them to me. “Here.” I put on his shoes, which were too big for my feet but were warm, and his sweater and he grabbed my hand. “Now come on.”
We started walking towards the orchard and I saw something move. It was white and if it hadn’t moved, I wouldn’t have noticed it. I couldn’t tell what it was exactly because Fred was in my way. We walked through the gate and Fred stopped. I walked around him and looked at the creature. My jaw dropped with pure amazement and my eyes widened. There in front of me was a Unicorn. It was eating off a little bush in the orchard and looked so peaceful. I looked up at Fred and he was smiling at me.
“Why is it here?” I asked curiously.
“I have no idea. Might be lost.”
I shook my head. “Unicorns don’t get lost.” I walked a little closer to it. “How did you know it was out here?”
“I was getting a drink of water and saw it come in. Thought you’d like to see it.”
I nodded. “I love this.” I stood closer to it and it looked up at me. I was nervous to touch it seeing how I’ve only studied them but I knew it liked a woman’s touch.
“Pet it.”
I looked back at Fred. “I’m nervous.”
