when you leave. . .are you gone forever?

or is it just temporary?

J.

justin. justin knows what it is like to be abandoned. it has happened from time to time again. his father, leaving him alone, his only friend he had, leaving him to fend for himself.

plus, it has happened to his mother. dear pattie has been abandoned before.

it has happened his whole life. and it might just be happening again?
: :

pattie sat next to her son, her eyes low with sadness. a sadness that floated in her eyes for not herself, but for someone else.

she clutched her unconscious son's hand, in hope of reassurance. he didn't know what had happened only a few minutes ago, but it would definitely impact him once his eyes opened and he could regain consciousness.

even pattie knew, that when justin woke up, things would only get worse. from her eyes, to her mouth, to her personality, to how she spoke. pattie knew that this girl at least liked her son, and maybe after a little consideration, the girl would come back around.

season left in a hurry, her eyebrows creased in some type of confused way, her eyes hard with realization, and her body movements hastily about the room.

it was tense in that hospital when season sat across from pattie and justin, as the word mute slipped through pattie's lips. that word never had crossed through season's mind. and, it was strange to think that was the cause of justin's quietness.

regret sat upon pattie's shoulders, as she sat alone with her son, asking herself why'd she be so open to tell that girl about her son.

it hurt pattie when season quickly left the room, seeing that maybe justin invested in the wrong girl. again. . .

"oh, sweetheart," pattie choked, she hung her head down over her son's body. her eyelids shielded over her misty eyes, as she held onto justin's cold hand. "i'm sorry," pattie whispered to him, the tears wetting her eyelashes.

pattie had never wanted to be the one who would run away any type of connect justin would have with his social life. but, somehow she did. . .

it was now her fault that season, the girl justin was infatuated with, left the hospital with the intention of not coming back. pattie knew that what she did was wrong. . .telling season what justin should've.

it was justin's responsibility to let season know that he was mute. that he couldn't talk.

but, since justin's emotions were stuck inside himself, on the other side of that wall, justin could not tell season about himself. seeing that the only other girl, in high school, knew and broke him, he always avoided it.

"i am truly sorry, my sweetheart," pattie looked up to her son's face. his eyelids closed over those hazel eyes that were almost always filled with fear.

"this is all my fault," pattie's small voice spoke into the quiet room. the machines hooked up to justin slowly beeping, indicating that justin was still alive. . .

as silence filled the hospital room, pattie continued to hold her son's cold hand. she didn't speak again, seeing that it wouldn't changed anything that already happened.
