Can I Be Beautiful Too?

The leaves fall gracefully to the ground.

The river slowly flows around me.

The flowers bloom before my eyes.

Can I be beautiful too?

The children laugh innocently.

The adults smile.

They gather around to sing songs of joy.

Can I be beautiful too?

The squirrels play a game of chase.

The butterflies explore the new world.

The birds chirp happily.

It's a new beginning.

The sun shines protectively over the people.

The city rejoices.

The sky pushes away the clouds.

It's a beautiful day.

But I am alone.

The man smiles at his newly wedded wife.

Grandparents gaze thoughtfully at their grandchildren.

There is no care in the world.

But I am alone.

I have been forgotten.

I look at the cold brittle stone that sits next to me.

Joyful plants have grown over it.

They forgot to visit again.

An old man walks by and smiles at the beautiful world.

He walks past me.

Has he also forgotten?

He ignores the abandoned stone.

No matter how beautiful this must be.

I can't help but feel saddened.

For I am alone.

For I am forgotten.

For I am dead.

I am but a ghost of a lonely girl.

As I watch over these happy people,

I can't help but feel envious.

Can I be beautiful too?

Then maybe they might remember me.

I was once like them,

But now I'm not.

If I'm beautiful and graceful,

Will they come visit me?

My dull tombstone sits awkwardly next to the colorful flowers.

Showing how long I've waited here.

My tombstone,

Pale, dirty, brittle, and forgotten.

I sadly smile.

I have only one regret.

I wish.

I wish with all my heart.

May I please.

Just once.

Can I be beautiful too?
