Years Later

Jake's p.o.v

It's been strange. It's like they're already married. I mean, I won't knock him about it. I won't congratulate him on it either. 'Let the chips fall where they may' right? Seemed to be just yesterday those two shared their first kiss. It's cute, but I'm not gonna make my life revolve around the "Mika" thing they have going on. Ship names, am I right?

Jess sat on the couch, straddling my lap as I pet her thigh, watching the telly. Her head had been buried in my neck, my other hand resting on her back. It'd taken months for us all to prepare for this damned wedding and not it was finally here, finally. Mike'd been pacing back and forth, stressed as hell. Or as Mira might say, "Hella stressed."

Anyway, Jess kissed me goodbye as she headed off into the room with Mira and her mates, the sound of squeals loud as hell. I gave Mike's shoulder a firm pat, smiling as he stared at his bow tie, seeming distant. The pat became a squeeze to snap him out of it. he glanced over at me with a raised brow. "Mate, you've got this, Just walk down the aisle, ignore those fucks on the side, say your words, and kiss the bird."

He gave an unsure nod before turning and petting my shoulder. He glanced at our other mates and gave them all a nod. "Sure you want to spend the rest of your life with this lady?" Dylan asked. Mike laughed and glanced at him, coughing. "'Course I do, don't be daft." He'd marched out the door and Dylan begin to chuckle. I mean,  dunno what was funny, but we all joined in until it was a riot of boisterous laughter.

We'd stayed cooped up in the room until one of our mates coughed, signaling the beginning. We headed out and found seats, me sitting next to Jessica of course. Shocked we lasted a while. Mira stood with her hands locked into Mike's, eyes intently focused on his. I could tell she was 'hella' embarrassed from the way she kept shifting her weight from leg to leg. Mike kept chuckling as he noticed.

No one really payed attention as the pastor droned on. Then when it got to Mike and Mira, the room fell dead silent. I could tell by the blush on their faces that they weren't enjoying the spotlight all too much. Mike cleared his throat and gave a sheepish smile.

"I know I have said before that I love you with all I am, all I have been, and all I ever shall be - with all my heart and soul- and now I offer my proof. This ring is the offering of my being- all my heart and soul and health. All I have and all I ever will have. It is yours as I am yours - as I always have been yours and will be yours. I love you with all of my being.

I love you enough to set aside all my promises, all my swears, all my bitterness, and take instead the one thing I have seen ruin so many- the thing that is as dangerous in my eyes as it is beautiful. Your last name and, with it, the hope that maybe it really is possible for two people to find a happily ever after in their own stories," he said, smiling up at her.

Mira tried, obviously, not to choke on her tears, quickly wiping at them as Mike slid a ring onto her finger. She twirled the other ring around her pinkie and inhaled deeply, smiling up at Mike, which made him laugh.

"Michael, the first time we met, I fell deeply in love with you. I knew that you were the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Every moment we have spent together since that day, my love for you has grown. My heart, my soul and everything that I am belongs to you.

You are the most amazing and perfect man I have ever known. You make me happier than I ever thought possible and I feel truly blessed that you have agreed to be my husband. So I make these vows to you in the presence of our closest friends and family, so that they may witness the promises I make.

I solemnly vow that I will spend every day doing everything I can to be the wife that you deserve; to support, love and cherish you; through the happiest times, but also through the darkest times. I vow to be your best friend, your closest soulmate and, most of all, your faithful wife.

No matter what life may throw at us, I vow that I will never stop loving you, will never stop caring for you and will never stop trying to be the best wife that I can be.

I love you, Michael, with every fiber of my heart."

And with that, she slipped the ring on, he grabbed her waist, and delivered a deep kiss to her rosy lips. That, lads and lassies, is what I call happily ever after.
