Ash's POV
I.. I lost.. I said looking at Greninja who had fainted on the ground. I looked down at the ground in shame and was disappointed in myself. How.. How could I lose when I had trained so hard?
I kept asking myself the same question. Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie looked at me sadly. Pikachu hopped on my shoulder and looked at me worriedly. I went over to Greninja who looked up at me sadly.
"It's okay, Greninja.. You were great." I said as I took out it's pokeball and returned the Pokemon inside.
"That was a great battle, Ash." Wulfric, the snowbelle gym leader said walking up to me.
I smiled lightly at him. "Your pokemon are really something, Wulfric." I said and turned away from him as I began to walk out the gym and towards the Pokemon center. Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie followed behind me.
Nurse Joy took my injured Pokemon including Pikachu with her as I sat down on one of the couches.
How could I lose like that? After training so hard.. I..
I closed my eyes shut trying to hold back any tears that would come out. I rummaged through my bag looking for a small handkerchief to wipe my tears away. I didn't want the others to see me cry. I finally found one and pulled it out my bag and noticed something fell on the ground.
"What's this?" I said as I picked it up from the ground. I realized it was Dawn's first contest ribbon. She gave it to me before I left Sinnoh. Her voice echoed through my head..
"Here, take this." Dawn smiled handing me her first contest ribbon.
"Your first contest ribbon? Dawn I--"
"It's for good luck on your journey to become a Pokemon master."
"Dawn.." I smiled.
"No need to worry!"
I smiled at the ribbon and decided I'd give her a call. I got up and went over to one of the video phones. First, I called up Johanna, Dawn's mother.
"Hello, Ash. It's wonderful to see you." She smiled.
"Hey there, Johanna. How's everything?" I asked.
"Everything's just fine. But, I'm sorry to say Dawn's not home. She's currently in Hoenn right now." She said sadly.
"That's alright, Johanna. Do you know which part of Hoenn she's in?" I asked her.
"Right now, she's in Lilycove City."
"Great. Thanks Johanna, it was nice speaking with you."
"Take care, Ash!" She said as she hanged up the video phone.
I then called up Lilycove city's Pokemon center. Hopefully Dawn was still there and hadn't left yet. Nurse Joy picked up the phone and greeted me.
"May I help you?" She asked.
"Yes, I'm looking for Dawn." I said.
"Of course, be right back" She said leaving the video phone. I waited a few minutes until Nurse Joy finally came back.
"Thank you." I told her as she smiled and left. Just then, I saw Dawn come up on the screen. She still wore the same clothes she wore when we were traveling together. Her blue hair still looked beautiful (as always) and she still wore her white beanie.
I smiled, "hey, Dawn."
She smiled back at me, "hey, Ash. This is a surprise." She laughed.
"Why's that?" I asked her.
"You never called me before. What's up?" She asked me. I averted my eyes from the video screen not knowing how to tell her I lost a gym battle. How would she react? Would she be disappointed?
"Another tough gym battle?" She asked. My eyes widened, it's as if she was reading my mind. I looked away sadly not wanting her to see me cry.
"No need to worry." There was her catchphrase.. "That Ash I know will train harder and definitely win the second time!" She smiled.
I looked up at Dawn who gave me a reassuring smile. "Thanks, Dawn. That makes me feel a lot better." I smiled.
"No problem. I gotta go now, I'm competing in a contest soon. See ya, Ash!" She said waving goodbye.
"Good luck, Dawn." I smiled as she hanged up the video phone.
She's right. I'm gonna train harder and this time.. I'm definitely gonna win!
With Dawn
I stared at the video phone for awhile and then walked out the Pokemon center towards the contest hall thinking about my phone call with Ash. He looked really down when I was talking with him over the phone.
I looked down at my partner Piplup and smiled.
"Piplup, what do you say we visit an old friend in Kalos after this contest?" I asked.
He smiled and started cheering happily.
Well, there you have it. First chapter of "Shattered". I hope you enjoyed!! :D
