Chapter 23: Ash vs Sawyer!

Sorry for not updating guys. It was a hectic week and I was really busy. But I hope you enjoy this chapter at least. :)

Ash's POV

I made my way onto the center of the stadium and looked around at all the trainers. Soon, the announcer started the ceremony and congratulated all the trainers who made it here for winning all 8 badges. They then showed the trainers who would be battling today, the board shuffled the matches up and as soon as stopped my fists clenched and I gritted my teeth.

I was challenging Sawyer.

I looked around the crowd and found him looking up at the screen. He then looked over at me and smirked as he walked away. I felt someone's hand on my shoulder and looked behind me to see Alain.

"Don't let him beat you, Ash."

"I won't."

I walked out of the stadium and headed towards the Pokemon center to gather a few of my other Pokemon. I didn't know what Pokemon Sawyer would be using but I might as well try my luck. The battle wouldn't start for another 15 minutes so I have enough time.

Let's see.. As far as I know Sawyer has one Pokemon that can mega evolve and that's his Sceptile. He'll probably use that in the match so I'll go with Infernape. His other Pokemon are Salamence, Slurpuff, Aegislash, Clawitzer, and Slaking.

Salamence was a dragon and flying type. So ice types have a huge advantage, I decided I'd go with Glalie as my second Pokemon. The last one was hard... I'd have to be really careful about which Pokemon I choose or I could be at a disadvantage. Slaking was a normal type and I had the advantage with Infernape since it was also a fighting type. He also had a Clawitzer which was a water type. Hm.. I guess I'll go with Pikachu as my last Pokemon.

I gathered my three Pokemon for today and ran towards the stadium. Right when I was running there I saw Dawn standing outside. "Dawn." She smiled and walked up to me and gave me a peck on the cheek. "Good luck today." I smiled at her as I pulled her into a quick hug and gave her a kiss. "Let me bring you to your seat first. I don't want anything happening to you." I said as I walked her back to her seat with the others. Afterwards I went out towards the stadium center and noticed Sawyer already standing at the other side of the battle field.

"Ready to lose, Ketchum?" He smirked.

Gosh, I really hated that smirk... But, I gotta calm down, I can't let my emotions get the best of me.

Sawyer called out his first Pokemon which was Slaking. I smiled as I called out Infernape. Now I had the advantage here since Infernape knew Close Combat and Mach Punch.

Sawyer called out the first move. "Slaking, use Hammer arm!" Slaking then got up and unleashed hammer arm towards Infernape. "Infernape, dodge then use close combat!" Infernape successfuly avoided the attack and dealt powerful hits on Slaking causing a lot of damage. Slaking fell to the ground but got back up weakly. "Slaking use slack off!" Sawyer shouted. "As if I'm gonna let that happen. Infernape use Mach punch!" Infernape then let out a powerful Mach punch on Slaking causing it to faint.

"Slaking is unable to battle. The winner is Infernape!" The referee announced.

Sawyer returned Slaking into it's pokeball and called out his next Pokemon. "Salamence, go!" Out came the dragon Pokemon as it looked down at Infernape and let out a loud roar. I called Infernape back and brought out Glalie. I called out the first attack this, "Glalie, use ice beam!" I shouted as Glalie launched an ice beam towards Salamence. "Dodge it then use dragon rush!" Salamence then unleashed a powerful dragon rush on Glalie. "Glalie!" It was on the ground and struggling to get up. "Glalie don't give up!" I shouted.

Sawyer smirked at me, "it's pathetic, Ketchum. Your Glalie has the advantage but it seems merely useless against my Salamence." I clenched my fists and looked at Glalie who was still down on the ground trying to get up. I didn't know what to do at this point. Salamence had the size advantage so it would be tough for Glalie. I looked towards the crowd and saw Dawn looking at me with a worried look. My eyes widened and that's when I remembered what I was battling for.

I looked back at Sawyer and smirked at him. "Glalie, I know you can do this! Get up!" I shouted. Glalie was still a bit weak but finally got up. "Alright! Use icy wind!" Glalie then unleashed icy wind causing inflicting damage on Salamence and lowering it's speed. "What!? Impossible! Salamence, use dragon breath!" Sawyer shouted. "Dodge it, Glalie then use ice beam!" Glalie dodged Salamence attack and launched ice beam towards Salamence.

Salamence was starting to get weak. "Glalie! Ice beam once more!" I shouted as Glalie launched another ice beam towards Salamence. Salamence stood up for a little while and fell to ground in defeat.

"Salamence is unable to battle! The winner is Glalie!" The referee announced.

"Great job, Glalie! You did it!" I said as I hugged Glalie. I then watched as Sawyer returned Salamence into it's Pokeball and called out his last Pokemon which was Aegilash. I didn't wanna call out Infernape so I decided I'd choose Pikachu. "Ready, buddy?" I asked it. Pikachu nodded as it went onto the battlefield.

"Hmph. This isn't the end, Ketchum." Sawyer said.

"We'll see. Pikachu, go!"

Skipping the final battle because I'm lazy to type it.

"Aegilash is unable to battle, the winner is Pikachu! Which means the victor goes to Ash from Pallet Town!" The referee announced for the last time. I ran up to Pikachu and hugged him and thanked my other Pokemon for helping me win today's battle.

I looked at Sawyer who returned Aegilash into it's Pokeball, took one last look at me, then walked away. I watched as he did until he disappeared. I then started making my way out of the stadium and was greeted by Dawn who embraced me into a hug and congratulated me. Meyer, Clemont, and Bonnie also congratulated me on today's battle.

"It's all because of you, Dawn." I smiled.

"Why?"

"I remembered what I was battling for. I was battling for you because I definitely wanted to make you proud."

She smiled at me and gave me a kiss. "Win or lose, I'll always be proud of you."

I smiled at her and embraced her into a hug. I was the luckiest guy in the world.

Not much romance because battle and such. I promise there will be some romance in the next chapter :)
