Chapter 15: I won't give up so easily

Ash's POV

I looked down at Serena who was clinging on to my arm and laying down on my shoulder. I felt embarrassed because people were looking at us and I couldn't do a thing about it without looking like a bad guy. I couldn't hurt Serena's feelings because even though I don't love her as a girlfriend, I love her as a friend. I sighed as I continued to watch the contest battles.

"Hey Ash." I looked up to see May and Drew back from the contest hall. I looked down at Serena who was having a stare off with May. Drew and I both decided to stop them and continue watching the battles.

"Introducing our two final coordinators who will battle it out to see who wins the Hoenn Grand Festival and becomes our next Top Coordinator! On my left, it's Brendan from Littleroot Town and on my right is Dawn from Twinleaf Town!" Vivian announced.

Dawn looked up at me and gave me a heartwarming smile. My eyes widened at her and I began to blush.

What was that just now? She did notice Serena.. didn't she?

"Brendan from Littleroot Town.. I've heard of him before. He specializes in both contest and gym battles. He's not gonna be an easy opponent." Drew said.

"I'm sure Dawn can beat him" May smiled as she got up and began cheering. "LET'S GO DAWN! SHOW THEM WHO THE REAL TOP COORDINATOR IS!" Drew laughed in embarrassment as he tried to calm May down.

The contest battle had begun and Dawn called out Togekiss and Quilava while Brendan called out Sceptile and Delcatty. Brendan called out the first move but didn't land a hit because Dawn Quilava use smokescreen. The battle continued on and on until both of them were equally judged.

Serena got off from my shoulder and looked over at Dawn. "She calls that a performance? Please, I've done better at my fashion showcases with my Pokemon and--"

"Shut up! You know nothing about contests or Dawn so just shut up!" Drew shouted. May tried her best to calm him down and make him sit. The battle had come to an end and we looked up at the screen to see who had won.

My eyes widened at the screen as I looked over at Dawn in shock. She turned around to look at me and gave me a smile and thumbs up. She then shouted...

"See? I told you there's no need to worry!"

I smiled at her then looked back up at the screen that showed a picture of Dawn, Quilava, and Togekiss. Dawn had won the Grand Festival. Drew and May both got up from their seats to go and congratulate Dawn.

"Yay it's over, whatever. Let's go, Ash." Serena said tugging on my arm. I kept admiring Dawn and her beautiful smile and how happy she looked holding the Grand Festival trophy.

"Ash! Let's go. You have a league to train for." I looked at Serena and nodded my head at her as we both began to leave the contest stadium.  I didn't wanna hurt Dawn anymore so I decided I'd leave Hoenn and never bother her again. She'll be happier that way..
