~Ember~

"Jimmy!" I squeal as reach for him. He takes my hand and stands up shaking off the spilled food.

His eyes look tired and sad.

"Sorry." He mumbled to the janitor who had already rushed over, cleaning the mess.

He turned to me and looked embarassed.

"Uh, well. Thanks?" He questions, obviously not sure what to say since Veronica was standing next to me with her mouth wide open.

Jimmy walks away to the bathroom to clean himself up.

"You're welcome." I manage to say before Veronica drags me towards her friends. She whispers in my ear.

"Dude, what just happened?"

I shrug, not knowing what to say.

"That was weird. Anyway, let me introduce you." She suddenly becomes very animated now that we are standing closer to the table where four other girls are sitting.

"Maya, Emily, Sara. Bailey, this is Ember. She's new here." She moves her arms indicating to me like I'm a prize on a game show.

My hand lifts up in a slight wave and I smile.

"Hi, girls nice to meet you." They all smile and wave back. I notice that Bailey is in my math class and Emily and Sara are in English with me and Veronica.

"Hey, you're in our English class right?" Sara says pointing her red painted fingernail at me.

"Yes thats correct." I say and chuckle slightly, hoping to break the ice.

"Oh that's cool!" Sara's hand falls to the table and she picks at her salad.

"Vern, where were you last week?" Maya asks and the conversation is turned from me.  Veronica ushers me into a seat and then takes the one next to me.

"I was at the doctors and then my dad had a few meetings to go to and he wanted me to come." She says simply and unpacks her lunch. She pulls out a sandwich, carrots, and a bag of cookies.

I look at my own lunch which I had also unpacked. It consisted of nothing but snacks.

"So guys guess what?" Veronica says and I know that the conversation is soon to be on me again.

"What now?" Bailey asks, her mouth full of lettuce from Sara's uneaten salad.

"Ember is a directioner!" She boasts and pops a carrot in her mouth.  The other girls look from her to me as if they don't know what to say.

So I speak up.

"Uh, yeah. I really like Harry and I have their CD's and stuff."

"Oh my gosh! Harry is like my favorite too!" Emily squeaks across from me. She elbows Sara.

"Yea, Harry is neat. But I like Niall." Bailey says still chewing the lettuce.

"Well all that matters, girls, is that we now have an extra member to add to our concert tickets!" Veronica claps her hands together loudly.

"Right, right. Now its even." Sara mumbles and pushes the salad towards Bailey. Bailey pulls the bowl in front of her and starts stabbing at it with her fork.

Maya looks uncomfortable, but it passes as she grills Veronica again.

"Why didn't you tell anyone you were going to be gone Friday? We were supposed to meet at Dairy Queen and you never showed."

"Sorry, my phone was off for the day. I got a new one." Veronica pulls out the Galaxy S4 and shoves it towards Maya's face.

Now that the conversation is off on me, I take in the girls appearances.

Bailey seems to be the loud mouth one that will eat anything. She's got a pretty round face with stunning brown eyes. Her brown hair is cut close to her chin in a bob. I think it suits her.

Maya on the other hand was the interrogator. She obviously held the second in command postion among this group of girls. Her skin was perfectly tan and her long reddish brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail. Her blue eyes were dull, however.

Emily is a pretty blonde. She seems to be the quiet one of the bunch, but shes very sweet. Her short blonde hair reaches her shoulders and flips in at the tips. She doesn't wear as much makeup as the others, but she is still just as pretty.

Sara is a cheerleader. The head cheerleader. She's stick skinny and her straight blonde hair goes past her shoulders. Her green eyes seem cold at first, but she seems to be nice so far. I think she's the one that is dating Johnny.

My eyes fall on Veronica. She's putting her phone back in her bag. I can see the way that each girl looks at her. Each of them must admire her.

"Okay, girls. How about Dairy Queen on Fourth Street tonight at 8?" Veronica says and slings her bag around her shoulder. "You too, Ember."

I nod my head.

"Okay, I'll be there."

"Good. Now I'm going to class. Oh, hey girls give her your numbers. Give her mine too. I have to go now. Adios." She saunters off to the trash and dumps her uneaten sandwich and cookies.

"You'll get used to her. She does that all the time." Emily says and stuffs things back into her bag.

"Yeah. Can I see your phone?" Maya says reaching towards me. "I'll put all the numbers in there."

I reach into my pocket and pull out my phone. Its the Galaxy S2. Not as impressive as Veronica's.

Cautiously, I hand it to her and she takes it, immediately scrolling through and typing.

I hope she didn't take Marcel's number like Johnny had. I watched her just like the others did. Maya handed my phone back and stood up.

"Well girls, I'll see you all tonight." She walks away and dumps her trash.

"I better be going too. Come on Bails." Sara says poking Bailey's arm. Bailey shoves in one more cherry tomato before picking up her things and walking away with Sara.

"Um, I think we are in the next class together right?' Emily says. She's the only one left at the table with me.

"Uh, yeah. Biology right? With Mrs. Regis?" I question and I take a sip of my water.

"Mhm. Did you know that the teacher is Sara's mom?" She says.

" I had no idea." I mumble with water still in my mouth. Emily bursts into a fit of laughter as the water dribbles down my chin.

"You don't have to answer if your mouth was full silly." Her smile brightens my mood.

We sit at the lunch table and talk until the dimissing bell rings.

I think I have just made another friend.

Maybe, just maybe.
