~Ember~

I felt so bad that I couldn't go over to Marcel's tonight, but I had to go meet my new friends. If Veronica and I were working on a project together, I didn't want to upset her and not come to see her.

The blue Michigan sweatshirt that I had picked out for tonight was hanging off my bed. I grabbed it and pulled it over my head. It looked great with my dark wash jeans and white Vans. My hair fell in waves down my back.

I thought I looked pretty good, I hoped they would think so too.

My phone began to buzz in my pocket and I retrived it and looked at the screen.

'JIMMY'

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey. What's up?" Jimmy said calmly.

I looked at the clock on the wall. It read 7:20. I had to go soon, there was no time for talking.

"Well uh I have to be going soon to see some friends but we can talk later?"

"Oh yeah, I saw that on Twitter." Jimmy says his voice growing quiet.

"We can talk later? Like after if you want?" I say.

"Actually, can you come over? Please?" He pleads.

I was being pulled in so many directions today. First Veronica and her friends, then Marcel, and now Jimmy. I knew that I shouldn't go to Jimmy's put something inside me just snapped.

"Uh, okay. Does it matter what time I come over? Like it will be after eight."

"No. Just come over. I'm the only one home tonight. So its a perfect time to just talk and get to know each other."

"Alright. I'll just walk over when I get home, okay?"

"Thanks, Ember. I'll see you then." Jimmy says. I expect him to hang up, but he's waiting for me to say something.

"Okay, Bye Jimmy." I say and he replies with a bye and hangs up.

Well now what do I do? I can't ignore Marcel. Maybe I could just call him on my way home and then just say I was tired.

But he knows me too well to know if I'm tired or not.

It was weird to say that because I hadn't known him long.

I hadn't even been in Cedar Hills that long and look at how much has happened!

One more quick look at myself in the mirror and I left the house, calling out to my mom that I was leaving now.

I got into my car and drove to the Dairy Queen.

As I pulled up to a stop light just before the parking lot, I could see four girls standing around a shiny black Buick. There was someone still sitting in the car. That someone looked like Veronica.

The light turned green and I turned into the crowded parking lot. Emily looked up and spotted my car. Her arm shot up and she had a big smile on her face. The other girls watched as I parked my car and walked over.

The door on the Buick opened and Veronica stepped out. Her long hair now piled in a bun on top of her head. She was wearing a PINK hoodie and shorts.

Why was she wearing shorts? It was 60 degrees.

"Ember! Hey girl!" Veronica said as Emily opened her mouth to say hello. A squeak came out and she shut her mouth, knowing that Veronica had gotten the first hello.

"Hey." I shoved my keys in my sweatshirt pocket.

"So girls, you read to get ice cream now?" Maya asked looking important. She like the other girls had just slipped hoodies over what they were wearing at school.
