~Ember~
"Thanks for the ride home, Jimmy." We're standing at my front door, Jimmy looking very concerned about me.
"Em, are you sure you're going to be okay alone?" He takes my hands and squeezes them.
"I'll call you if I need you." My head is turned towards the ground. It wasn't right to have my boyfriend see me like this. He should never see me cry over another guy.
"Promise?" Jimmy tries to lift my head, but I don't let him. He gently releases my hands and pulls me in for a hug. I'm too distraught to move my arms to hug back.
"Yes." I manage to say and he lets me go.
"I um, have something you might want too." He reaches into his coat pocket and produces a pair of thick rimmed glasses. Marcel's glasses. "Maybe you can hang onto them as a remider of your friendship if things don't work out someday."
Jimmy was being so sweet about everything. So understanding.
"Thanks, Jimmy." I take the glasses from him gently and hold them.
"Okay. Be good. Bye." Jimmy says rubbing his shoulder He walks back to his car. I can tell he keeps turning around waiting for me to run into his strong arms. All I can do is wave and walk into the house. There isn't much left to say. I broke someone's heart today.
My best friends heart.
I should have let him tell me what he needed to tell me the other night. He liked me. I knew it.
Ember why are you such a bitch!
A tear rolled down my cheek and I let it. It was the only way I could get the pain out now. I had promised Marcel I would never try anything again.
But what if that meant nothing now? What if he never wanted to see me again?
My phone felt heavy in my pocket.
Call him.
Call him.
Call him.
I should.
I pressed the number 1 button. Marcel was on my speed dial as number one.
The line rang, and rang. I got his voicemail.
"Marcel, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please talk to me. If I would have just known...please Marcel. Don't leave me like this. I love you, best friend." I recorded about twenty more messages like that before I fell back on my bed exhausted from crying.

"Ow." My leg began to cramp up as it was bent in a funny position.
I moved and straighten it. Must have fell asleep. My phone was sitting next to me on the bed and I checked it to see if Marcel had called or anything, but there was nothing. Only 2 texts from Jimmy, one saying he missed me and the other was goodnight.
I texted back that I missed him too and I was okay. All I wanted was for Marcel to talk to me. Maybe I should just go over there.
Before I knew it my hair was up in a ponytail, my face washed free of my smeared makeup and I was wearing my pajama bottoms and a sweatshirt.
It was about 8 at night so it wasn't all that late, but it was getting dark. I sped to Marcel's house, and pulled up in his driveway. His black car was there, so I knew he was home.
Here we go Ember, hold your tears. I exited the car and went up to the front door, ringing the doorbell.
Feet came rushing towards the door and it flung open to reveal a tall old woman with a stern face.
"What do you want?" She boomed into the quiet night.
This must be the nanny.
"I uh, came to see Marcel." I try to make eye contact, but I can't look into those chilling eyes for long.
"He doesn't want visitiors." She said and stepped back to close the door.
"Wait please tell him I was here! I'm Ember! Ember Rockmore." Her expression changed.
"Oh! You're Ember huh?" She slammed the door in my face. I nearly fell over. Tears came to my eyes, but they didn't fall. My head drooped as I made my shameful walk back to my car. On the drive home all I could think about was that it was over.
I lost my bestfriend.
