I was bored out of my mind and e were still walking in the forest, taking turns leading the road. Of course luck wasn't on our side. We kept on arguing and taking wrong routes until we were in the middle of no where. I didn't even see one person pass by! "I don't think I can take this anymore!" Vinny screamed, swatting mosquitoes on her neck. "I don't mind one or two bugs, but a swarm of mosquitoes and creepy crawlers is just crazy!" She said.
"Deal with it!" I snapped. I have actually began to understand their personalities. Vinny was more of a hot headed annoying girl, who complained about everything, but at times she could be nice. Although with Lancer, I could barley even know whether he was angry or annoyed. There was always that distant stare in his eyes, as if he was thinking hard about something. But he never opened his mouth, unless he makes a retarded or stupid comment on something. Finally, to end this report, we all hate each other's guts! I don't know how Samuel expects us to work together. They are just simply too annoying.
"Hey! Isn't that a small cottage! Over there!" Vinny pointed. I ran down the path of the forest and jumped in excitement. Finally! Civilization! Never knew I'd need that so much one day. We walked ran over and knocked on the door. An old lady and a girl, no older than fifteen, greeted us in. They both had blonde buns, but the girl's hair was much more silky and smooth than the old woman. They were dressed in a tunic and a cheap ankle skirt, not exactly rich people.
"Are you lost travelers?" The girl asked.
"Well sort of," Vinny told her. The old lady returned a friendly smiled.
"Well then come on in, I'll brew up some tea!" The old woman said.
"NO! Not tea," I yelled. She turned back and tilter her head in confusion.
"Sorry, she's a little slow in the head," Vinny covered up.
"Who you calling slow in the head," I glared at her.
"Why don't you three come on in and sit down?" The girl interfered, breaking us up. The cottage was really small, but it looked extremely cozy. We sat on a long wooden bench, covered with the skin of fox fur, or was it bear skin? Anyway, the cottage barley fit one bed and a table, then the kitchen. We shouldn't be staying in here for long.
"My name is Raina and that is my grandma Lenny," She introduced.
"Hey, come here for a second, I need ask you a question." Lancer spoke up.
"Oh, sure." The girl said. He took out the map that Samuel gave and motioned the girl over.
"How can we reach the next dot, which is...Oaktree village right?" He asked.
"Oh, we are in Pineland, but I'm not so sure, maybe you can stay over night and I'll ask Fin, my older brother, when he comes back later in the day?" She suggested.
"Sure, I'm tired of walking anyway!" I said. Vinny nudged my side.
"Oh, no! We definatly can't do that," Vinny replied with an apologetic look.
"How come?!" The girl insisted.
"Well um," Vinny said looking around.
"If you are worried about the space one of you can sleep on the bench and two of you can sleep on the bed. I will set up mats on the floor for me, Fin, and grandma Lenny," She insisted.
"Alright then, but we really don't want to make you guys uncomfortable! It's enough that you're taking us in." Vinny said.
"Well we could've just agreed from the begging!" I said, rolling my eyes. Vinny flushed red, glaring at me and mouth something like, "manners". The girl giggled and shook her head. Her grandma, Lenny, came in placing the dreadful tea.
"Here, I have something special for you, since you don't seem to enjoy tea." Lenny smiled at me, giving me orange liquid in a cup. "Fresh pumped oranges," She told me as I inspected it. I glared at the cup, they're too nice, I'm not used to that. What if it's poisoned? What if it's all a trick?!
"If you don't trust me would you like me to try it?" She offered. I shook my head, taking small sips. It wasn't that bad.
"Were did you guys come from anyway?" Lenny asked.
"A far away distance," Lancer replied quickly. Samuel did mention something about keeping the mission secret, but do we have to hide every single thing? She looked back at her grandaughter and nodded, understanding that we didn't want to reveal anything else, so they stopped asking us personal questions.
"It's getting a little late sorry," Raina said, staring out of the cottage window. "Fin will come back from hunting, please be patient!" She told us.
"Of course!" Vinny replied. A soft knock came from the door. Raina ran and opened the door.
"Fin!" She squealed. A blond headed kid walked in with a strapped deer haning, limp, on his back. He was probably a bit buff for him to carry a deer on his back.
"You came just in time! We've got guests who need directions," Lenny told him. He placed the deer down and looked at us.
"Welcome," He said. His face dropped when he glanced at me. I saw him glance a second time, and then move his eyes to my right arm. I covered it.
"Hey. Are you crazy? Do you know who they even are anyway?!" He scolded, not taking his stare off me.
"They're really nice! Is something the matter Fin?" Raina asked.
"Something the matter? Of course there is! You might've not gotten the latest news, but the bounty has been put up this morning. That girl," He stopped and pointed at me."She's worth a million gold coins," He said. Raina and Lenny gasped. "And if I'm not mistaken, I could've sworn that those two had a poster too. Worth ten thousand gold coins," He added.
"Oh dear! You must have been mistaken! What crime could they have done?" Lenny asked him. He shook his head and reached inside his jacket, handing them the bounty posters. We looked at each other, secretly speaking with our eyes. Should we make a run for it?
"Oh my, it really is them!" They gasped, looking up from our painted pictures. The two girls stared at us in fear.
"But, I can't believe it! What did you three do?!" Lenny asked. I shook my head.
"Nothing, people are just scared of us!" I defended. The three looked at each other and made a decision.
"We'll ask you to leave the next morning right away! I'm sorry, but we can't guarantee our safety," Lenny spoke. I smiled.
"Thanks! I promise we will leave right away!" I told her.
Lenny cooked the deer, and we awkwardly sat down, squished together. Fin kept on glaring at us, and Raina was looking back and forth with a hesitant look.
"The food smells good," I sighed, sniffing in the arouma. Fin rolled his eyes and sucked his teeth.
"Well come on, it's ready," Lenny offered, as servings were severed and placed on the table. Raina helped set the chairs up and the jugs of water. I dug in a soon as I recieved my plate.
"Ugh, Kali please stop eating like a pig!" Vinny complained.
"Am not!" I growled, spitting some parts on her.
"NEVER MIND! Just finish up your food!" I shrugged.
"What's wrong Fin?" Raina asked, he hadn't touched his plate.
"Grandma why did you put salt in my food? I don't like salt." He told her.
"Really! You used to always be fine with it?!" She frowned. He shook his head.
"I sort of developed a rash, noticed it recently." He explained.
"Sorry, you should have said something before! I'll go cook you up another plate." She told him.
"Aren't you hungry," Raina cuckled, looking at me. I stared up at her blinking a bit.
"Guys," I whispered, struggling to keep my eyes open.
"What," Vinny asked.
"I feel...." My eyes shut and my head dropped to the table.
"KALI!" Lancer and Vinny shouted, before I blacked out.
